Damn, how about the Guild electrics?
The Starfires were worthy contenders for 40 years in Gibby's ES field.
And the Bluesbird was just plain great.

The 335s predate the Starfires and I was merely using the 335s as an example. Notwithstanding, I absolutely, positively agree with you. This reinforces both our points though: Fender owns Guild who still make Starfires just as good or better than back in the day so why bother reissuing a dramatically inferior Starcaster for any reason when one can get themselves a really nice Guild. And yes too, as with the Starfires back in the day, those Bluesbirds were mighty fine contenders as well. Ironically, because of 335s, Les Pauls and SGs having a lock on that genre, a lot of people missed out on a mighty fine series of high end instruments with the Guilds.

Martian, all Guild electrics are now discontinued. :(
You're right, the Starfires IV and V (the ES-335-likes) appeared in 1963, so 5 years after the ES-335.
The last production year for the Starfire IV was 2005, and 2003 for the Bluesbird.

And another great one more than worthy of being re-issued - Fender's very own Esprit.

Just goes to show you how much I keep up on Guilds!LOL

Agreed again, the Espirit was different and nice. Come to think of it, PRSs kind of reminds me of them. YMMV.

Hmmmm I have a 1976 and it's waaaaay cool. I think Fender really messed up using the name on the cheap line though. I don't think I'm for a reissue, it would take away some of the mojo and magic of the originals.

I hate to drizzle on this parade but I'm in agreement with "the martian". Nothing about the Starcaster puts any "lead in my pencil". I'd rather see a re-issue of the mahogany-bodied '63 Tele. Or the silver-face drip-edge amps.

(going back to turtle up beneath my rock now......)

I say "yes" to the RI-but only in black. The maple SC was double-butt ugly! Also, Made in USA only!! It is a crime how Fender ran Guild into the ground-Their electrics are as good or better than Gibson, and the DeArmond line was quite good for an import. Guild acoustics have always been my favorite, and hopefully they will survive and thrive-NO GAD's!!

dude... read the response from mike eldred when someone posted it in the ask mike section..... even if it was reissued as a production line, not even custom shop, it would be pretty expensive

Just saw Martian's comment and I must say I am confused. As I mentioned in another thread, I own a '76 Starcaster (sunburst) and it is simply one of the most amazing guitars in my collection. Fender managed to combine the sustain of a Gibson with the funk of a vintage Strat...at gigs I play either my '59 Strat, or the Starcaster. Both just wonderful instruments.

I think most (all?) of the Starcaster's bad reputation came from people assuming it was crap, because so much of Fender's line at the time actually was crap. But emphatically NOT the Starcaster. A superb guitar.

I do continue to be dismayed---and even offended---that Fender today slapped the Starcaster name on the sub standard hunk of junk at Costco.

Floyd I was the one that brought it to Mikes attention after seeing Steves post on the Harmony Central forum which is a neutral site and how well it was recieved there. To be honest I dont even remember the guitar when it was out but for some reason something like 7 well known bands guitarist use them so there must be something there. Someone at HC had said Fender does not have the templates anymore and Mike said what the hell are they talking about templates it is a hollow body.

Well to add to my surprise Mike E actually went over and posted on the HC forum and also signed Steves petition. Yes he said a lot of people can sign but when it comes time to do it lets see who shows up-not a direct quote but that was his point. Anyway Steve has this thing in its infancy and already has 300 signatures besides Guitarist magazine doing a 2 page spread and raving on what a good ax it was which was a coincidence I believe.lol But lets see in 6 months to a year what happens as Mike said though this was a CBS AX like the Tele Thinline they still have the machinery to make them. I for one would be down and if there were any glitches they could correct them today.

Steve you have to put this in the Lounge as someone stated already as it is the busiest part of the forum.

So........

I ordered my Starcaster in aged cherry sunburst last week. :D

I wanted to update this old thread last week, but i've had some problems with the old login.

A big mega thanks to everyone and anyone who signed the petition way back when in 2010. Im not saying the petition was solely responsible for the reissues, but it couldn't have hurt 990 signatures last time i checked :)

I need to try them out locally before ordering. And I might go for the Coronado in the end, I don't know yet. Would be nice if it was Wildwood...
