Howdy Fenderites! :D

Im fairly new here, just thought i'd let you all know, i started an online petition for the re-issue of the original 70s Fender Starcaster stunning semi-hollow guitar, a few weeks ago. There is a lot of buzz surrounding this guitar on various sources all over the net, there are lovers and haters. Although mostly lovers

After contacting 'Guitarist' magazine, they have featured a 2 page spread devoted to the guitar in the 'used gear' column in the March edition issue326. And in the new April issue 327 they have published my letter, which is about the petition itself.

Before this thread gets into a haters debate, about how; Fender will never re-issue this, it didnt sell the first time round, they wont get the pickups right, just buy a gibson, get the custom shop to make you one, its ugly, or whatever your opinion may be, please check out the link to my petition, alot of your questions may be answered there.

Basically, a lot of guitarists want this guitar, but are not prepared to pay £3500+ for a used 35 year old guitar. There are big named acts guitarists who use these guitars; RadioHead, Killers, Artic Monkeys, to name a few. And so far ive got 80 signatures that support this cause.

I am looking for More support and More signatures from the Fenderites here, please show your love and support by signing the petition, the link is below, it takes less than a minute, its free, and is spam free!! :D

Thankyou in advance for anyone kind enough to show your support!

Fender itself posted a thread in the forum just a few days ago asking what guitars we'd like to see reissued,I entered Starcaster and Coronado.BTW Randy Bachman of Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive endorsed the Starcaster when it was being produced and played one almost exclusively on stage and in the studio. The full mellow jazzy tone that he got on a lot of his songs was from the Starcaster.

I would like to see it reissued, but I am afraid it would be pretty pricey if they did.
And then alot of us would miss the bus and not be able to afford it.
I could be wrong..

I'd like to see alot of guitars reissued......Cyclone,......Vista Series......Sub Sonic Baritone.....Wild Wood....Marauder......etc....I could literally go on.
But if it doesn't make dollar$, it doesn't make sense. IMHO-N 8)

What would a reissue do to the value of the vintage ones? If it adds to the value of my mint '79....then YES reissue it. If it decreases....Hell NO!

Reissues don't do much to the value of vintage ones. They won't devalue them. in the case of the Cyclone all that might happen on that front is they might stir interest, and slightly raise the value of the old ones.

Well in my case it's a '79 Starcaster I am worried about. Got sick of waiting for a reissue and got one off e-bay 3 years ago; prices have been climbing since. There is no doubt the interest already exists in them. Not sure how they would recapture the sound of the "true" WRHB they came with, the current ones do not. The price the RI would be could not be too far from a current vintage price.

I agree, i think that the price would be in the high regions even for a re-issue, but i would rather pay the ££s for a new guitar than take a gamble on ebay for a 35(ish) year old guitar which could be in any kind of condition, esp since they rrpd at a fraction of the price a used one is now.

I am going to post this as a new thread somewhere other than the suggested 'wasteland lounge section' any other suggestions? I pretty new to these forums and i would hate to be shot down on the strat or tele threads for being too off topic, although i would like maximum traffic.

The official petition, (link in my sig) has 96 signatures now, i would love it if we could reach the 1st 100 before the weekend is out!

Be sure to pop along to the petition and give it a sign!

Thanks :D

Obviously, I'm in the minority here. I remember those Starcasters well and IMO, they were just plain awful. Switching over to the majority, most back then agreed with me and that's why the guitar died off. Fast forward some 30 odd years later and all of a sudden, they are a must have? I wonder how many people who clamor for one actually played one or owned one and dealt with it for any period of time.

As I've said several times in the past, musical instrument manufacturing companies should stick with their strengths and not delve into stuff which they just can't match. For example, an ES-335 is one of Gibson's masterpieces and not that they needed it for this particular instrument but once Gibson bought out the real Epiphone company, the two companies technologies in the same vein made an even better semi-acoustic and jazz box. Conversely, there is NO Gibson or 'real' Epiphone on the planet which comes anywhere near the singular delight of a nice Strat. Gibson realized (especially of late) not to go there either.

Lots of players may sign petitions but FMIC would be more concerned (and rightly so) with the fact that signed petitions do not turn into sales which justify the retooling, reproduction and sustenance thereof . Besides, if the price of the RI Starcaster encroaches on that of anything in Gibson's 335 line, you know where those looking for superior semi-acoustics are going to spend their hard earned money, especially in today's financial gloom. This is unless of course, they go Asian with it but logistically, I doubt it very strongly. Consider too, the Cyclone. Now this one has me stumped. It is essentially an updated Mustang with all the bugs out of it, geared infinitely more to the modern player yet the Mustang is still more popular with all its quirks. Consequently and here too, please reread my first sentence of this paragraph.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Damn, how about the Guild electrics?
The Starfires were worthy contenders for 40 years in Gibby's ES field.
And the Bluesbird was just plain great.
