Hey guys I've been looking at a guitar but being a Gibson guy I don't know much about it. So what can you tell me about this one.

I can give you guys this information on this particular guitar.
-Wilkinson Locking tuners
-Graphite nut
-GHS Neo Vin and Hot rail in the bridge
-Upgraded electronics (pots, switch and caps)
-Custom PG (its actually a metallic back ground with darker grey and black designs on it)

Now one thing I don't like is the pickguard, so how easy would it be to get a new one and how much would one cost?

Duo Sonics and their single pickup sister, the Musicmaster were designed to be student models, hence the shorter scale necks. These were the guitars that eventually evolved in to the Mustang that everyone know and loves today.

Original duo's (there have been a few mexican remakes) were made sometime up til around 1964 when they eventually became the duo-sonic II. I forget the specifics of this and what went into them, but one noticeable feature is metal plate over the volume and tone knob area.

Simply a nice little guitar with an interesting bit of history if you really look into it. I forget about all of this stuff since having bought my Musicmaster. Not sure how much a new pickguard would run you, though. Probably not too much.

Best of luck with your decision

The Duo-Sonic debuted in 1956 and had a maple fretboard 'til 58 and in 59 went to rosewood. From 56-61 they were Desert Sand in colour and 61-63 sunburst in 65 blue, red and white were available. The long scales were called Duo-Sonic IIs from 65-69 when production was ended. There were MIM models made from 93-97 in White, red and black, besides the Mustang and Musicmaster Fender also made the single pup Bronco which had the pup in the bridge position as opposed to the Musicmaster which had the pup in the neck position. These little guitars were student/beginner models but had an amazingly good sound and the short scale neck was great for playing leads on,I have a 65 Mustang and I love everything about it.The Duo-Sonic differs from the Mustang in layout of electronics as it doesn't have the extra"phase"switches above the pickups.

I have been thinking about getting one but really I am afraid it is too short. I have played a regular fender with the 25.5 inch neck and it was just right.
