Hi, I'm new here. I have a J. Mascis Jazzmaster, and a Squier Fat Strat. Can anyone help me with the question in the subject? I know there is a knob in a slot on the tremelo cover, but I don't know what to do. Thanks

To unlock the tremolo, slide the button forward, towards the headstock.

Thanks, but I think the button is slid toward the headstock.

This article here explains the tremolo system in details with diagrams:

Hope this helps.

atolleter,
Thanks for the link, there is a lot more to the Jazzmaster trem system than I realized.

That system certainly is pretty smart. I cant lock the trem on my Strat with just one button.

Thank you. I think from that my adjustment screw needs to be loosened.

If the screw is too tight you cant slide the lock. The trick I guess is to have the trem balanced to where locked or unlocked it remains in the same position. So this would have to be adjusted when you change string gauge as well.

When you get it set right you'll see how cool it works.
It's my favourite shallow trem ever.

As a comparison the trem on Mustangs sucks. At least mine does.
