i'm sure people will disagree with my opinion of this but i HATE what "squire" has done for the fender name. It has done nothing but put the beautiful fender name next to the like of ashton or any of the lower price names.

Sure Fender is a mid to high budget range but at least its mid and not JUST high, squire and mexican made keep lowering it and lowering it.

i know alot of you play Mex which is fine, but my personal opinion is fender keeps doing things to make it cheaper and cheaper. First the move to Japan and then the move to mexico... what gives.

Since i was a kid, besides the first crappy guitars i owned, i was very lucky to be handling vintage guitars from all brands which left a lasting impression on my fingers and ears... and anything brand new i put my hands on these days feels like utter crap. This is not being snobby, its coming from the playing aspect.

For years my dream guitar was the Custom Shop Fender 1969 Strat because it looks EXACTLY like David Gilmour's Strat from Live At Pompeii which i think looks sooooooooo fuckin' sexy, and i finally found a NOS of this exact guitar at a local guitar shop, priced around 4-6000 AUD (cant remember) and it felt like crap compared to 1969 Tele or even my 94 Strat Plus.

I also placed my hands on a 3000+ AUD Gibson SG and again... felt like poor manafacturing and my first thought was "eww, i've played ashtons that feel better than this".

I have played many $@! Fenders and own a $@! mustang but they simply do not compare to vintage USA. sound nor feel.

I know i'm "pidgeon hole-ing" myself but i've given up on most guitar things being bought brand new except for simple accessories and accoustic guitars and even then i will only play Maton accoustics as they are 100% Aussie wood and made locally and even brand new they sound like sex let alone 5 years of heaps of playing.

This is merely my opinion and i'm not trying to flame others but this is my opinion which i feel entitled to say.

But what I am saying is Fender can take that vintage feel (they should have guitars like the musicmaster's and bronco in the Fender museum) and turn that into a new guitar therefore Fender musicmaster'10 (for year). You never said anything about what i quoted you just put you hate solid bodies and need a "special" acoustic.

a crap mustang?!?! if its a reissue, you're insane..... if its a vintage though, this may be true as during the cbs years the lower end fenders (back then the mustang and the like) were often raped.... bad electronics, screwy necks, etc...... there were good ones, and there were bad ones

dude, your crazy. squier has done the exact opposite of what you claim. you say that they drag the fender name down;infact, they do the exact opposite. by making squier they are showing that they care for their musicians enough that they are willing to make budget guitars for people who can only afford budget guitars but want the real fender look and feel. by making squier they are not putting fender next to "ashton" or whatever company you stated, they are still fender and fender is fender even if they have a budget brand. i have an american strat and i love it and i have a mexican tele which i love equally. mexican and japanese guitars are great and i dont see why you imply that they are a disgrace to the fender name. squier and mexican guitars do not lower Fender prices like you stated they broaden them. just because certain guitars are made in certain places dosn't mean they are bad guitars.

we have lots of forum members on here that have fenders and squiers and continue to buy squiers even though they own fenders. why do they buy squiers you may ask? they buy them because they are still good guitars, price means very little when it comes to buying guitars, what buying guitars comes down to is not the brand or the price but the feel and how it works with you.

i know that was your opinion but i kinda felt like i could also reply with my opinion

p.s. please do not use profanity.

Not all Squires are garbage,I've played some Squiers over the years that were excellent guitars as a matter of fact Jeff Healey prefered Squier Strats throughout his career and I believe him to be quite an authority on guitars.I wouldn't lump all guitars in a category as junk if I found the odd one lacking, several years ago quality control was lax with many manufacturers there were some poor guitars built but then again there were some exquisite examples. So to dismiss a brand in it's whole as junk isn't really a true evaluation of the brand.

Who's with me when I say Fender should bring back the odd shaped, alternative and short scale guitars, such as the Cyclone, Toronado, Jag-Stang, Musicmaster, Duo-Sonic, Bronco and Swinger (aka Arrow and Musiclander)? But as Fender re-issues rather than Squier ones like the Duo-Sonic in 2008, not that I have anything against Squier.

I know Fender discontinued most of the models for lack of sales or for the movement of the music, but would you agree more people want the vintage models and re-issues would be a solution to the problem in some sense?

I've found it hard to get some of these guitars, especially with the prices they are going for on ebay. I have a 1994 Fender Duo-Sonic Re-issue with a 22.7" scale neck, but I'd like to get one with a 24" neck. one of my friends is dying to get a Toronado because they are perfect for how he plays.

So who else thinks Fender should bring the legendary guitars back?

Sounds nice,

If you'll buy them, maybe they will.

i have no problem with Fender doing any of that, but the only one I'd be interested in is the original Starcaster semi hollow.
But I don't know that I would be able to afford it.

I've been advocating the reissue of the original Starcaster for years,it would give the Gibson Hollow and semi hollow bodies a run for their money.Randy Bachman made some tasty recordings and played many concerts using the Starcaster.I doubt if they would reissue it now since the Starcaster name has been assigned to a bargain basement model,I can't see their reasoning for that at all.To resurrect the name of a classic and place it on a low budget starter guitar just doesn't make sense to me. They could have called it the Mooncaster Venuscaster Cheapocaster anything at all except the Starcaster.

gibson makes the melody maker in the usa for about 500 bucks

I think fender should bring back the Bronco or Music Master and sell it for about 500 bucks

and then maybe build the mustang in the US and sell it for about 800-1000

That could be cool, but then I thought that was at least part of the point of Squier...

my parents bought me a musicmaster in 1961. my teacher at that point recommended the guitar because of my small hands. i still played that guitar until i sold it 2 years ago. it was so easy to play.

with all the new guitars available, i doubt fender would be remotely interested in bring back this guitar.

I don't know about bringing back old models and putting them out for sale in mass production, but I think that they should at least make models available, I would love a new Coronado, but they were last made over 35 years ago. if I get my Coronado destroyed somehow I need to search E-bay far and wide to get even a part for it.
