Who's with me when I say Fender should bring back the odd shaped, alternative and short scale guitars, such as the Cyclone, Toronado, Jag-Stang, Musicmaster, Duo-Sonic, Bronco and Swinger (aka Arrow and Musiclander)? But as Fender re-issues rather than Squier ones like the Duo-Sonic in 2008, not that I have anything against Squier.

I know Fender discontinued most of the models for lack of sales or for the movement of the music, but would you agree more people want the vintage models and re-issues would be a solution to the problem in some sense?

I've found it hard to get some of these guitars, especially with the prices they are going for on ebay. I have a 1994 Fender Duo-Sonic Re-issue with a 22.7" scale neck, but I'd like to get one with a 24" neck. one of my friends is dying to get a Toronado because they are perfect for how he plays.

So who else thinks Fender should bring the legendary guitars back?

I think we could do without the atrocious Jagstang but I'd like to see the short scales like the Bronco,Musicmaster,Duo Sonc brought back.I have a short scale 65 Mustang and it's a great little guitar. The Swinger was just cobbled together with left over Mustang parts it might be alright to bring it back for it's oddities sake. The short scale necks would be a boon to people with small hands.

and jazz bass parts. the bodies were from bass', the only thing mustang was the neck.

the only thing fender should bring back is bronco (in japanese and US), and a US bronco. a japanese duo sonic would be $@!& as well.

but the rest can rot. swingers, jagstangs (which should've never been released in the first place), toronados (which are nice, but they had their shot), and cyclones (mustang with a strat trem, nahhhh).

i'd love to see these guitars revived (with some electronics upgrade for jagstang and the like)... why not even some new designs? it sure has been a while since a 100% new, unused design has come out  ... the small necks fit me better because of small hands... they help A LOT when im standing up and playing because im also quite short for a 13 year old boy (4'10 actually :? )

I vote yes for the Bronco, Musicmaster, and Duo Sonic. no on the other stuff. As mentioned above, the Swinger was put together from left over and damaged parts from other guitars. That's not something I want to celebrate. The Jag-Stang is just plain ugly.

@Nevin 1985: The Squier Duo is lovely - I bought one three minutes after clapping eyes on it in the guitar shop (I'm not joking). Plays very well, with a great neck. But I'd kill for a genuine Fender 50s reissue.

A few years ago there was a great Mustang reissue, in blue or red with the competition stripe. Been looking for a used blue one for at least four years, with no success.

Bronco (with a better engineered vibrato) would also be great. JagStang? An abomination mostly successful because of its artist association, I'm certain.

i say no because it could lower the value of the real deals. lesser the "rarity" factor.

i'm sure people will disagree with my opinion of this but i HATE what "squire" has done for the fender name. It has done nothing but put the beautiful fender name next to the like of ashton or any of the lower price names.

Sure Fender is a mid to high budget range but at least its mid and not JUST high, squire and mexican made keep lowering it and lowering it.

i know alot of you play Mex which is fine, but my personal opinion is fender keeps doing things to make it cheaper and cheaper. First the move to Japan and then the move to mexico... what gives.

Since i was a kid, besides the first crappy guitars i owned, i was very lucky to be handling vintage guitars from all brands which left a lasting impression on my fingers and ears... and anything brand new i put my hands on these days feels like utter crap. This is not being snobby, its coming from the playing aspect.

For years my dream guitar was the Custom Shop Fender 1969 Strat because it looks EXACTLY like David Gilmour's Strat from Live At Pompeii which i think looks sooooooooo fuckin' sexy, and i finally found a NOS of this exact guitar at a local guitar shop, priced around 4-6000 AUD (cant remember) and it felt like crap compared to 1969 Tele or even my 94 Strat Plus.

I also placed my hands on a 3000+ AUD Gibson SG and again... felt like poor manafacturing and my first thought was "eww, i've played ashtons that feel better than this".

I have played many $@! Fenders and own a $@! mustang but they simply do not compare to vintage USA. sound nor feel.

I know i'm "pidgeon hole-ing" myself but i've given up on most guitar things being bought brand new except for simple accessories and accoustic guitars and even then i will only play Maton accoustics as they are 100% Aussie wood and made locally and even brand new they sound like sex let alone 5 years of heaps of playing.

This is merely my opinion and i'm not trying to flame others but this is my opinion which i feel entitled to say.
