So it's time for a change. I had a religious experience recently when I tried out a Strat for the first time (I know; I lead a sheltered guitar life). Needless to say I now MUST have a strat, and I've decided that trading in/selling my Toronado is the way to go. My question is, how much do they usually go for?

Mine is a '98 deluxe series sunburst in very good/mint condition. Really the only signs of wear are a rice-grain sized dent in the upper bout and a mismatched screw on the pickguard (it's black while the rest are nickel).

I paid some $300 for it at a pawn shop but reading on here it seems like they go for more on ebay and such.

I just need to know how much I can expect back and put towards my strat.

Also, on a related note, given how much I can get for the Toronado which strat should I go for? I play clean probably 90% of the time if that changes things.

Also, I'm lookin more toward used strats just so I can get better value for my dollar.

The value for a Toronado in mint condition is $400-500.Asfar as Strats go I'm partial to the 60s reissues as to my ear the 60s Strats had a real spank and sparkle that was unique to them. Also there are great MIM Strats that are fairly cheap new so you'll have a new guitar with a warranty for the price of a used MIA model or cheaper.

To answer your question Floyd, between realizing all my major guitar influences (SRV, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Jeff Beck, etc.) play strats and playing one for myself and realizing that was the sound I was after it just makes sense to me.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Toronado, it feels like home to me and the tone is great, I just think I've outgrown what it has to offer. I wanna see where a strat will take me musically.

Also, in response to guitslinger, are the new MIM's better quality than the older ones they were putting out? I heard they revamped the lineup in response to some criticism but I haven't played any of them.

The new MIMs are of excellent quality, granted the quality wasn't consistant in the early years but the new ones are almost on par with the MIAs and some would say just as good.I have a 2000 MIM Strat and it's a dream to play and listen to.BTW is there any way that you could hang on to the Toronado?Since you are so fond of the guitar it would be a pity to get rid of it just to get a new one.I traded in a guitar that I loved once to get a new one and have regreted it ever since, that was the only time I did it and I now have a collection of 25 guitars.A player should always have more than one guitar as it widens your tonal possibilities,it's just great to pick up whatever guitar suits your mood.
