I've been wanting a Jazzmaster for a long time, and soon I'll have the funds to get one. I'm torn between the 3 signature models the Mascis, Ranaldo, and Moore.

It seems that the major differences are the pickups and bridges (and frets). I would love to hear them back to back playing the same thing so I could compare them. Do you know of a site where I can experience this?

Perhaps there is a youtube video, but realistically I know I wouldnt be able to tell the difference as much because I'm listening to it through my computer speakers and it wouldnt be the same as being there in person. (like the Tv commercials where they show you how great their tv display is, meanwhile your watching it through your own tv display, lol), and there isnt a store around here that has more than one of these, much less all three.

Or in your opinion how would you describe each style of pick up and what are their strengths and weaknesses?

And how does the bridge affect the guitar, I know there were some issues with the original bridge of the Jaguar and Jazzmaster, but I'm ignorant of most of this

Thanx,

I can't help you with those specific models as I've never played them. My own Jazzmaster is a stock '62 AVRI. It has the original bridge with the original bridge spacing. While it will take you a little while to get used to some of the quirks of the bridge, it works just fine. You don't need a Buzz Stop or anything like that. I use .010 strings on mine and I have never had any problems with the strings popping out of the bridge while playing. My right hand can be pretty heavy, so if I don't make the strings pop out I don't think it would be a problem for most people. You don't want to use less then .010's on it though. A lot of guys use .011's but I think the .010's are just fine.

If you want a Jazzmaster that sounds like a Jazzmaster, you should take a good look at the AVRI.

I have the Mascis and I love the pickups. Really clean, chimey and strong. The neck, however is just way too beefy for my taste. I'm going to swap it out ASAP. Sure is a swangin' gittar in the looks department. For me, it's all about the Jazzmaster pickups and if I didn't have the Mascis model, I'd go for a stock, non-signature version.

The Thurston Moore Jazzmaster is simply stuning. I wasn't fond of the color when looking at it for two months before I ordered it but, once I got it into my hands it is simply an amazing sounding and looking guitar. The feel of it seems as though it can take a serious beating. I took it straight out of the case and did know adjustments to it what so ever. Played like butter and sounded just the way I always dreamed it would. The antiquity 2 pickups have an amzing tone and I am playing it through several amps. I have a fender champion 600 5 watt tube amp for recording purposes and a 64 create solid state and it sounds amazing through both. The switches on it are designed so there is no hassle with hitting your toggle when your rocking out. No fussing with all the standard jazzmaster nobs even though they can be fun to be creative with. I waited to buy a jazzmaster ever since I was a little kid and I am very happy with the desision of the Thurston Moore signature. I hope that helped good luck on you journey!

I been gassing for a Jazzmaster (need a job first), but i'm in the same situation where no music stores near where I like carry Fender guitars... :(
The finish on the Mascis Jazzmaster is pretty cool but I'm looking for something with a little hotter sound then my Am. HSS strat...

Should I be looking a Jaguar instead? Or just some other guitar...
