As an owner of two Fender Lead Series guitars (Lead II & Lead III), a '90 Squier II Stratocaster, a '08 Squier Tele Custom and the '85 Tele HSS Bullet "1", I find absolutely NO reason to denigrate what a new player can afford in a guitar. Why discourage or "turn her off" to a newly acquired instrument ? I see nothing constructive accomplished by these actions other than to insult her lack of funds or knowledge and boost the posters ego.

Maybe it was all she could afford, maybe the first guitar was used and bought with hard earned "babysitting" money, maybe she lives in a rural area and the first guitar was all that was available locally and the Bullet is her 1st "new" guitar, maybe the first guitar was a gift by a well meaning relative. Why make such insidious statements to someone new to the hobby ? Does it make you feel superior that you could buy a higher priced (read OVERPRICED) model ?

Having the guitars I do which ALL were the "student/beginner" models of their era shows that if designed competently (as ALL Fender/Squier) products are, they, the guitars, will last a "lifetime". "Guitargirl93" may eventually outgrow the Bullet, she in fact might decide that guitar is not her "thing' if it happens she won't have a fortune invested in a guitar she won't be able to sell without taking a substancial loss. In any event I'm sure it will suit her needs at this time, if and when she decides it's time to upgrade she'll have a better idea of what she wants.

Right now I have a mid-late 80's Bullet "1" Stratocaster that I bought for the neck it will soon be the first guitar for a twelve year-old boy. My good friends son has shown interest each time he's visited my home upon discovering my Strat in the bedroom. Since his grades are excellent, he's in advanced classes, doesn't watch TV (prefers to read) and doesn't have ANY grandparents (all deceased) I chose to ensure he received the proper instrument, (he liked my Strat) so he'll get the Bullet "1" Stratocaster as a gift. Due to the guitars size (smaller Strat body of that era) and his stature it'll be something he will be able to handle now and if his mother and father are any indication it'll continue to fit him when he matures.

I've already given away a '01 or so Squier "Strat" to another friends son who helped me for an afternoon on my dock repairs. He lives in a rural area of N.J where side jobs are hard to come-by (so are music stores). The guitar I sent out for a professional "set-up", I included a pack of picks an extra set of strings. Later I shopped ebay until late one night when a Johnson Reptone 15 watt amp was listed with an unbelievably low "buy it now" price, $38.00 shipped to N.J. I grabbed it within minutes of its' being listed. It was brand new and had superb tone when used in conjuction with the newly acquierd Strat. It took this fifteen year old over a month, painting a fence and cutting lawns to get the cash as his father required him to pay me for it (I was grateful for the help on the dock and intended on giving it to him). He's still happy and the entire package will suit him for a while as he and his twelve year old brother now have their own guitars to play and can play together now that there are two amps in the house.

Remember the early Bullet were derided when first appearing on the scene as was my Squier II AND both my Lead II and Lead III guitars yet look not only at their "value" now but more importantly their performance. You must also take in to account that for some especially cash strapped younger/new players this will be the first "new" (major) purchase of their lives, let them have the joy and satisfaction without finding fault with their choice, it may be the the only model they could afford at this time. Not all have the luxury of expendable income, less people now then before.

I have a Bullet Strat I got for $60. at a local music store as a trade in. It plays fine and stays in tune and sounds good all the way to the 21st fret so what is not to like?

When I get a Fender Standard Strat then I will be a happier camper, along with the G-Dec 3 I also want.

I have a 2003 squier bullet, and i haven't bought another. Partially because of money, but then again, i don't need another! It sounds just as a Fender strat. Fuzz it up, wiggle the crybaby, and you find that you sound almost like Jimi Hendrix! I love it!
Another cool feature: the pickguard ages fast! I had to take of the middle position tone control and saw that around the knob the pickguard was like a creamy white and where the knob had been, it was factory white! I love that aswell!
:D

Anyone who says Squiers are junk, really hasn't played alot of them.

Get what you like.

I have pricey guitars, and cheap guitars. I have Made in; America,China Indonesia, Japan, Canada, Korea, Jupiter......
I don't knock anyones guitars....EVER! And noone has the right to do so, no matter what their excuse... :?
I have seen people play cheap guitars and blow away people with exensive guitars.....It's funny. Some folks show up with $5000 guitars and can't keep a beat or play a note.
I have other guitars other than Fender Brand.
I have an Gibson SG, I LOVE it.
I also have quite a few Squiers that are right up there in sound and performance with my Fenders, Gibsons, Jacksons etc. (insert your Pricey brand here).

Play it befire you buy it, NOONE can tell you what is good for you as far a a guitar. Good Luck in your search.-N 8)

My first guitar was a Squier Bullet I've had for 8 years now, and I still play it, even though I now have 7 other "better" guitars now. When the switch got noisy and a tuner went bad about 2 years ago I had Guitar Center replace the switch and upgraded the Bullet''s pickups to Seymour Duncans and added Fender locking tuners (not a direct fit, but adaptable).
I use the Bullet for practice and lessons, but not for paying gigs. The upgrades cost more than the original guitar, but it keeps it a usable instrument for me, so I don't regret it. It is a great "starter" guitar, upgradable if you choose, and as my "first" it now has sentimental value, so it's a keeper!
