Hi im new to the forums and i just have a question about the mustang and jag; which is better for a grunge guitarist? I'm torn between a mustang RI and an HH jaguar. Also ive heard that the bridge on the jag isnt the best so if the answer is the jaguar what would be a good replacement?

thanks in advance

Hello again, Im new too! sorry i cant help though, im not too clued up on mustangs and Jaguars. Have you checked out the Jag-Stang? bit of a mix of both, unfortunately i dont think they make them anymore, but you may be able to pick up a 2nd hand one on ebay or sumthing? Im sure Mr.Cobain had something to do with the production of this guitar in the 90s and they were reissued about 6/7 years ago.

Dont know if this helps any? :?

I have both single coil Mustangs and Jags however I'm not familiar with the HH.I'd say for grunge the single coils would work best as opposed to the humbuckers of the HH.Both Mustangs and Jags are great guitars, your best bet is to give them a back to back demo both have a wide range of tonal capabilities and are well suited for many types of music if you ever decide to switch genres.

If I were offered a choice between the 65 RI and 69 RI I'd go for the 65 partly for the reason it has a smaller headstock which to me looks better secondly if the pups are based on 65s they'll give a funkier vintage tone. The best thing is to give a try to both and go with what you feel is best.

Kurdt played the Jag and the Mustang (Univox High Flyer too) because at the time they were'nt as sought after and more affordable.
Personally I think the switches get in the way on the Mustang. The Cyclone is cheaper and no switches. It has pretty much the same set up. (with out the tremolo etc...)
My advice too you is to play both , see what YOU like and can afford.
Remember the rockstars get these ex$pen$ive guitars for next to nothing, because of their promo and endorsments.

There is a special Jaguar HH that sells for the same price as the regular Jag HH but has a stop-tail bridge like a gibson. And at musicians friend, I saw a really cheap jag hh in different colors with the same setup.
