Not sure what the current trends are but I gather that most serious guitar players like to change their strings at least once a year or so. Maybe I'm a bit lazy but I haven't restrung my '62 reissue Jag in over 8 years and they still sound pretty good imo (although I always wipe them off after playing).
Here is a 2 track recording (rhythm and lead guitar) made using direct input to a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro sound card with recording mixing software CUBASE LE

The reverb is the CUBASE VST effect reverb.

Nice recordings, they sound great. Not sure if old strings contribute to
the famous surf chime, I usually play flats at $16 bucks a pack so, I
try to get as much time as I can!

Sleepwalk, and Walk dont run, are nicely done.. I miss my Acidpro!

All my earlier Jag recordings were done using the line-out on an older Fender London Reverb (solid-state) and use the London's spring reverb.
The line-out in those recordings is fed directly into a Creative Audigy 2ZS notebook (PCMCIA) sound card on my laptop.

The newer 2 recordings (Sleep Walk and Walk Don't Run) don't use an amplifier. However, the sound card in this case, a Creative Audigy X-Fi Elite Pro has one line-in jack which has a switchable high-impedance input (for direct guitar inputs) with a good gain control. In these two recordings, I used this sound-cards send/return reverb effect.

I'll post some pics in a while of the various setups.

I ordered my '62 reissue Jag from Sweetwater about 45 days ago. I'm just waiting for Fender to ship it. I had an actual '62 in the mid to late 60's until it got destroyed in an heating oil tank rupture and I'm looking forward to "getting my baby back"!

I'm sure you'll find it absolutely fabulous. I'd be interested in hearing your comments on how you think if compares with your original.
The only issue i've had with mine is the trem-arm has this very slight resonance/rattle in the barrel holder ... shimming with thin plastic "sleeve" helps.

I don't remember a resonance in the trem-arm with the original. I will let you know about the new one.

Well, I've been waiting since mid-March for my Vintage '62 Jaguar and Fender still haven't shipped it to Sweetwater. What the heck is up in the factory?

Well, I just spoke to my guy at Sweetwater and he told me that there is another 2 week wait added on to my guitar. This has been going on since March.

Unfortunately, I am a man of my word and when I place an order with a dealer, I honor that commitment.

In "real life", I am a radio broadcaster here in the NYC metropolitan area and it may be time to start letting my listening audience know that Fender cannot be doing all that well because they can't build a guitar that is one of their stock items. I could understand if the guitar was a Custom Shop item, but it isn't.

Do we have any actual Fender employees out there who can explain why they can't supply a stock item in less than 3 months?

I just spoke to Fender Customer Relations and told them the "real" reason that I need this guitar (which I won't post on the board). The guitar just doesn't exist at this time.

I change the strings on my guitars at least every month if I'm constantly using them. When I was gigging I'd change my strings every week or after a weekend gig.I have an original 65 Jag and use D'Addario 8-38 on it(as with all my electrics)and find that have great tone.I find it amazing that a string can sound good after 8 yrs. After 40+ yrs playing and using countless brands and gauges of strings I have found that no matter what brand the tone of the string doesn't sound bright enough or sustain enough to my lking. No matter how often I wipe my strings the metal in them becomes fatigued and looses it's brightness and ability to stay in tune after a few weeks.I know that flatwounds are prefered by people into "surf" music and such but where I play mostly 60s/British Invasion and blues the roundwounds suit me fine.

Dave's Guitar Shop in LaCrosse, WI had a whole bunch of 'custom color, matching tone headstock 62 Reissue Jaguars (and others) in stock, shown at the metro Chicago show last month.

Near-Custom Shop quality and really fair price.

Michel, excellent playing. Thank you.

Personally, like DR .011 flatwounds for that type of music and changed after maybe 100 hours of picking..

Toastmeister, and luck on your jazzmaster yet?

I ordred a Thurston Moore model back in April and am trying to guage the length of my wait. The shifting dates I get from my dealer have been less than helpful.

On Friday, I got a reply from my dealer stating "Fender tells me the end of the month" (this is an additional 2 weeks). The order was placed in March, so I am probably a month ahead of you. I'll post when I actually receive the guitar.

Well, guess what! I got my Vintage '62 Jaguar for Christmas. It came at 3:05 PM today (Christmas Eve). Ordered in March, received in December. Thanks, Fender for being so prompt! :?

Long time, but guess is, it was worth the wait. Get a hot setup and your favourite strings and have enormous fun!
