I saw Eric Clapton playing a Fender Jazzmaster during his Yardbirds days.

Could the Custom Shop make an exact replica of this guitar, as well as copies of the Dakota Red Telecaster and the double-cutaway Gretsch 6120?

Logically, without these guitars in hand, they couldn't make exact replicas. The best would be general reproductions based on each guitar's general specifications.

One of the multiple problems we're facing about the idea of reproducing these babies is how to get Clapton's personal authorization.

We're unable to make these guitars (as well as his signature Fender Stratocaster in the much desirable tobacco sunburst finish together with a faithful Tribute replica of the original) without his consentment. I've read a post at the FDP Website regarding the "Brownie" EC signature and Tribute series releases.

Clapton sold these three Yardbirds-era guitars for a charity auction at Christies in 1999. "Brownie" is now in the hands of Microsoft's Paul Allen.

Surely brownie would just be a 57 ri ?? don't see the marketing need for an eric clapton version of something that already exists, because they're one and the same...unless of course they released a custom ltd ed brownie relic model...

EC played a tobacco sunburst 1956 NOS Strat during the Hootenanny blues show with Jools Holland in 2005. It was the first time he used a regular passive 21-fret guitar onstage.

Eric has also used one of the 275 Blackie replicas during a gig at the RAH in May 2006.

I hope Fender having his personal authorization for the much anticipated signature "Brownie" release, along with the respective "Tribute" version. This guitar will probably be available as a Custom Artist version, though I guess that a regular Artist edition of the instrument would be a good addition.

Here's a photo of a signature Brownie with Lace Sensors:

This guitar, a custom one-off model built for old slowhand himself by J.W. Black in 1998, is supposed to resemble closely to Brownie, however, features such as the 3-colour sunburst finish and the flame maple top make for an almost different instrument. The Custom Artist Brownie would have a tobacco sunburst finish, thin skin nitrocellulose lacquer and Vintage Noiseless pickups.

The Custom Shop Website had listed the Grigio (aka EC Gray) and Daphne Blue models as LTD Signature editions (shown below). These guitars came with a tweed guitar case.

Merci beaucoup pour les photos.

Can you give me the name of the guy who built the Yardbirds Jazzmaster replica? If yes, ask him to build also the accurate representations of the Dakota Red Telecaster and the double-cutaway 6120, as well as an Eric Clapton Signature LTD in Tobacco Sunburst.

Brownie, acquired by Paul Allen at the first Crossroads Guitar Auction was first seen by me at the Experience Music Project in Seattle WA at least 10 years ago. At that time, it had been displayed in a fine fashion along with its case and with a variety of memorablia connected both to Derek and The Dominoes, and the Layla sessions. Thereafter it was taken off display. I last saw it there about 4 years ago, in the 'guitar room', in rather unceremonious display with other significant instruments owned/played by other artists. It was a real comedown for me to see that guitar displayed as such.

In reality, it was a rather commonplace guitar of its era, which found immortality through the creativitiy of its owner. There are photographs of it around. In fact, the '50's Roadworn, in terms of overall present condition, is not far from what you can expect to see at the EMP, while the George Fullerton guitar is likely the epitome of an NOS version. Why Fender should bother with a hybrid that has nothing to do with the original when something like the Fullerton is pretty much a dimed copy of the original is something I can't quite understand. Vintage Noiseless pickups are the last thing I would expect to find in such a guitar and takes license for an idea which doesn't make sense.

Take the existing Brownie and do with it what was done with the Gilmour if that's what deemed necessary in this market. Another 'Blackie' ripoff we certainly don't need.

Alainlafrance strikes again. Just when I've got my Jazzmaster G.A.S. under control. That is one beautiful guitar. What pick-ups were used?

The guitar is proported to be a 1956 Stratocaster. The rest of your observations I am in total agreement with as you can discern from my other posting on this subject.

Doc

By the way, that sunburst Strat Clapton played at the Hootenanny seems to be a Relic, not a NOS.

Considering Alain, the purist collector, John would have had to have installed period correct single coils, unless, for some reason unknown to the ghost of Louis XIV, Alain lost his head and requested something different.
