I fell in love with the look of the Fender Toronado and have decided that I will have to settle with a Jazzmaster as the Toronado's are quite difficult to find. Just wondering if anyone could tell me if it's possible to replace the tremolo's (which I have heard aren't much good at keeping in tune) can be replaced with a hardtail setup and whether standard humbucker pickups would fit if I wanted to replace them?

Any help would be welcome in my hunt for the perfect Jazzmaster!

Sounds to me like you want a Jagmaster - which you can hardtail by just screwing the trem springs tight and taking the arm out, or stick a block of wood in the assembly...

Or if you want a more pro instrument maybe you should look at one of the Sonic Youth JM's? The Lee Ranaldo looks like a great ax. Again you can use it like a hardtail by just taking the arm off.

Really tho, most of us don't have any problems with tuning stability on the JM tremelo, it's a shallow trem and if you set it up correctly is very stable. If you know you want a hardtail and humbuckers then you might as well get the guitar you want first up, which isn't a standard JM.
