Have a medium-dark blue body Duosonic with a serial #134645 that dates it as a '56 if I am not incorrect. I am wondering where else a number could be found to validate the plate serial number? Looking at pictures, the body style is not the late '64 Mustang style. I know nothing about measuring the neck or nut width...some help please. In present state, it has a white pick guard. The decal says Duosonic. Unfortunately, the pickups don't work so I will want to restore, and get a new pick guard and master knobs..all as originals if possible. Any suggestions from the forum?

I forgot to add that it has a rosewood neck, which was a '59 style, not the blonde wood of a '56.

OK, I went online to determine the neck length and nut width. This Duosonic has a 22 1/2 inch neck and, as I measure it, a 1 9/16 nut...that places it between the 1 1/2 and the 1 5/8 that it should be! In '61, the width went down from 1 5/8 to 1 1/2. Therfore, I assume that mine is a '59 duosonic with non-factory paint color and a replaced plate from a '56.
Does this sound feasible?

The serial number you quoted makes it a 1966 according to the following site:

Also the according to the site you should have a large F on the neck plate, which would confirm that it is post 1965:

"F-Series (late 1965 to mid-1976)
Big script "F" on neckplate below serial number. Known as the CBS era. "

In terms of finding the parts I believe you have two options: e-bay, which might not be that easy to find the exact parts you are looking for or I believe Fender also sell NOS parts (New Old Stock).

Also you might ask Martian, if you look at this post he says he has a trashed 64 Mustang, perhaps he would sell you the pickups, which should be close to those of a 66 DuoSonic, but I'm not sure about that.

Thanks, Dan, I do appreciate the feed back. I went online and looked at pix of a '66. The body style is wrong for what I have. The pickup positioning is wrong. The style I have has the single 3-way pickup toggle. And the neck length on mine is not 24".
It is said that in late '64, the Duo-sonic was produced in red, white, and blue. Hmmmm, I wonder if the neck plate is a replacement? I see that if I tear my baby apart, there will be dates in other areas, also. Does anyone know where these "other areas" are?

If you remove the neck, you should have a date stamped on the based of the neck. It will say something like x mmm yy, where x is the model of the neck, for instance for a mustang its a 8, a strat its a 2 I believe.

Also, you can check the neck pocket and under the pickups, as these are different areas where fender is known to have penciled in dates for the body, depending on the year.

Finally, if its original you should also find a date on the pickup(s), sometimes only one of them. There should also be a date code on the potentiometers as well, in addition to a code indicating the manufacturer of the part.

Hope this helps.

Run the pot codes also if you can. If it helps, my '62 Musicmaster has a serial in the 71000's and the pot codes indicate that they were made in '61.
