I recently purchased a slightly used Jaguar HH. It was returned to Guitar Center by original purchaser so it's practically new. I was attracted to this guitar because of the short scale. I recently broke my wrist so the short scale has really helped. The problem I am having is that I am getting a lot of hum and popping sounds when plugged into an amp. I know it's not an amp problem or a cable problem. Has anyone had issues with grounding in these types of guitars? If so, where did you find the problem? There are a lot of possibilities because of three seperate control plates, the tail piece and the bridge. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

Must be something loose somewhere inside the guitar. Like a loose wire probably. Sounds kinda funny. Did you try the same exact setup with a different guitar? If you just got it you should take it back and have them fix it.

No, it's nothing to do with a loose connection. I've got this guitar, and i have spent a lot of money trying to fix it. I've taken it to Jack's Repairs in Denmark Street (London). he knows his stuff, and even he has struggled with this.

I can't believe Fender would manufature a guitar that costs around £700, and sounds this bad. It's bad wiring. I've played guiatrs half the price of the HH, that sound completely silent.

Fender should recall the whole range. It's a disgrace.

Hi

to the OP, which Jaguar HH? there are 3:
Jaguar Classic Player HH, Special Edition Jaguar HH, and Blacktop Jaguar HH, so just HH is a little vague.

more details might help the people on this board with more knowledge than i have to sort out your problem.

to the guy who posted that this "entire line should be recalled and is disgraceful"... wow... your first post, and once again, without specifying WHICH Jaguar HH, you deduced that you have the "same guitar" and that because you have a jag with HH and the OP has a jag with HH and you both have issues, that the ENTIRE line is crap? wow... i guess they must have only sold two. and both of them suck. just a little short sighted of a comment in my opinion.

i have a Classic Player HH and so far, i love it.

i hope the OP gives more details about which HH jag he has, and that some of the more people with more experience with jags can help the OP out.

cad.

EDIT: i see now that the OP mentioned 3 separate control plates, so im guessing that rules out the black top.

Really?

I've got one of the early CIJ Jaguar Special HH's and it's perfect. Completely silent.

Weird.

but I think it's cable problem, audible noise when stepped on guitar cable

I read something like this before. They said it was from static electricity and
recommended the wipe the guitar down carefully without scratching with
dryer static free cloth like 'cling-free'. The material is coarse so becareful not
to scratch your guitar. I had the same problem with my black Jag HH blacktop
and wiped it down and I haven't had any problem since. Hope it helps.

I have had the same problem with my Jag Special Edition Blacktop HH. Yes, the dryer sheet works. Advice is to use one that has been through the dryer once. They are coated with fabric softener and it will leave a sticky film if you use on right out of the box.

Another trick I heard and have tried unsuccessfully is scratching the back of the pick guard with a no-scratch dish washing pad. The idea is to make the surface rough so that the static can't build up because of the distorted surface. I'm sure there is a more technical explanation. Either way, it didn't work for me.

I am going to take it one step further the next time I change the strings. I have some copper shielding tape left over that I used to line the pickup, pot and jack cavities of a Jazz Bass and Strat guitar that had noise/grounding issues (Faraday Shield). It worked perfectly! I am only going to affix it to the back of the pick guard this time and ground it to the common ground terminal. The electronics seem to be fine and the problem is the static build up on the pick guard. This won't take away from the originality of the jag too much either and can easily be returned to stock if needed.

Hope this helps!

no probs at all on my Special (dragster pickups), and i use it in excessively close proximity with a pair of computer monitors. it might be a grounding issue, which is harder to check than you'd think: you'd have to pull it apart a bit to get to where the grounding wire is. i had THAT issue with my Mustang Special, and after tugging the bridge off and exposing a bit more of the grounding wire, it's all fixed. very minor issue really, finder simply had a little crevasse under the bridge for the wire to sit in, which meant the wires weren't getting *contact* the way they needed. a wire stripper and splaying out the individual pieces fixed it in no time
