Why did Fender jack up the prices on all their guitars? (especially the Jaguar) Is it because of the economy or are they working harder on making their guitars now?

Falling value of the dollar.

Also, they have a new HH Jaguar at the very aggressive $599 price point.

I tried one of the HH Jaguars out. Very nice guitar. Just be careful if you sit facing your amp while playing one. It will feedback like crazy if you get a little close.

I have noticed some discounts (as noted by the other comment) as well,
Music123.com and Musicians Friend (?) are selling a Fender Jaguar
H/H with covered pick ups inGunMetal Red or 3-Tone Sunburst for a very
low (to me) $599.99 free ship, no tax, I did call and the person checked
and I was told MIJ (or crafted n Japan as the label reads on the lower back of the neck)
The GunMetal Red model has a maching heastock color as well
Sweetwater.com has a Black Jaguar (with black headstock) for $799.99
regular $899.99 and one demo (same color) for $699.99 The $799.99
model is in their "guitar gallery and crafted in Japan is clearly marked and visible) Sweetwater also has The Classic Jaguar;s (open coil) S/S
and H/H for $799.99 normally $899.99 and a Black Jazzmaster at $799.99 regular $899.99, I "think" this series(Jaguar and Jazzmaster are
MIM, ? I did see a "pre-order option for Fender's American Special Series
Stratocaster and Telecaster (both at $799.99) arriving in 30 days per site listing , ? clearing inventory for NAMM Jan 2010 gear, cash flow? or
stimulate sales, I doubt that gear is flying off the shelves in this economy thats for sure, I like the prices on the Jazzmaster and the $599.99 Jaguar but I am holding on to my money and not put anything
on credit cards and pay interest possibly which would wipe out the sale
prices. So far a lot of companies have announced new Guitars prior to NAMM and I hope more suprises on guitars, and gear are coming, Godin really impressed me with their new offerings . I may buy some effects
but no guitars now, Fender though is bringing prices (IMO) to a realistic level compared to a company starting with G and one starting with P
(at least the P American made guitars) I do not post often, Happy New Years!
Peace and Hope
