Mustang talk gets around to Nirvana--who'd have thought it?

For the Record, I've had this guitar since before Nirvana was even formed.
And I never got into them.

But Cobain did do some good for the guitar's reputation.

Its a fine guitar, and yes cobain did do good for its reputation. But, we're not a bunch of "cobain wannabes", as you, I would have brought this guitar too if kurt didn't play it....

You know, that's one thing that I like about this place--while there are Cobain/Nirvana fans here, it's not full of wannabes--like another forum I no longer visit--it got annoying.

Yeah, be a fan, but be your own person, not a wanna be--and if you are a wanna be--don't annoy people with it, or insult those who aren't wannabes.

Yup, this forum is good that way.

Everyone at school thinks I'm a cobain wannabe, just cause I'm a fan, they say, "Ohh riley on guitar hero you can unlock cobain, you better get that just cause you can unlock cobain." An I think, "Get a life...."

When you get it back it will no longer be a Mustang,I hope you realize that,I've had my Mustang since before Cobain and all of you were born and the pups are what gives it it's originality and what a Mustang a Mustang. When you install non Mustang pups it just becomes a platform for after market parts.

I know that the pups don't have the output of a Strat for instance but you can easily compensate for that by using the volume and EQ of your amp and if it's the amp, well if it was me anyway,I'd rather trade in the old amp on a new one and throw in the pickup money to pay the difference,I can pretty well guarantee you that with the pups you've chosen that it will no more sound like a Mustang than a Les Paul does.I'd never consider getting rid of the pickups of my 65 Mustang as weak as they are no others have the tonal footprint of the Mustang original pups.

Let me give that a big AMEN...

I know my Mustang isn't as loud as my other electrics, but I would never replace the pickups--I love the distinctive sound of a Mustang.

I almost always use both pickups together, which helps with the volume, although I often use them out of phase--which cuts the volume a bit.

Overall I'm more a humbucker guy, but there are songs that just cry out for single coils, and ones that a Mustang is perfect for.
And I like variety.

Well Look at that…Will Ya!

Yo! I love your '69 competition. It was my first "real" guitar. I bought mine in 1972 at Mannys in New York. I gave it to my son when he was a teen. But got it back to save it from abuse. I'm glad I did. It's the best Funk axe I have. Cool

Thanks... she is has been with me for 30 of her 41 years. And she still plays as good as she looks.

Gave it to your son? You must really love him to do that. But I see you came to your senses. I'm glad yours is now safe and sound.... again.
Let me guess, he wanted a Strat.

Actually he was a big Nirvana fan. He found out Kirk Cobain played a Mustang, so I was the loving father and gave him mine. I got tried of seeing it on the floor in his room and took it back (tough love).
