Hey, I just remembered, I was going to ask if anybody noticed anything odd about the volume & tone knobs--it's not real clear in the picture, but maybe somebody will notice.

What about'em?

Something's not quite right about them.

And keep in mind that Fender used the Strat style knobs on Mustangs at this time.

But take a close look at the knobs and see if you can make sense of what's written on them (The picture isn't clear enough to read, but if you look at them, you might be able to figure it out.)

It says tone and volume......Whats wrong with that?

Those are very different from the 1969 knobs.

I bought it years & years ago-in Canadian $-so the price then doesn't directly equate to now.
But it wasn't expensive.

Well it does, but not quite-see below.

Yeah at some point CBS started using the Strat style knobs, instead of those ones--which some people raised a big stink over. I've seen internet rants about it actually.

In any case what I was referring to was that the volume knob is on the tone pot & the tone knob is on the volume pot.

I noticed it one day when I was playing it, and decided to leave it that way-I'm not sure how they got that way.
I've been able to come up with three possible theories---discounting aliens, etc.

1-I changed them for fun, and forgot about it--possible, but not probable.
2-Someone was playing a joke on me, and did it while I wasn't looking-possible, but as the switch happened in a period when I wasn't jamming, few people other than myself had access to the guitar--so not probable.
3-Probably what happened, as most of my guitars have speed knobs on them--without any wrtiting onthem, I probably took them off when I was cleaning my guitar, and I put them back on backwards by accident--and never noticed.

Not a great story, but just wanted to see if anyone would notice they're reversed.

Beautiful Mustang Zontar,my nephew's first Fender was a 74 Mustang with the same finish as yours and he pampers it.I have a 65 that I bought in 75 and a previous owner had stripped the finish and (poorly)applied satin varnish with a brush.I stripped off his damage and sprayed on a candy apple blue finish,my first attempt at a refinish. The pix are in the forum under Guitslinger's Babies.I wouldn't part with mine for the world, for a cheap student guitar Fender hit the ball out of the park on the Mustang.

Ah, like my epiphone sg. When you have the volume up the whole way, its on 0. And when its on 1, its on 3. I dont know what I did to it, but I think the store comboogulated it for me.

Well it could mess up somebody else trying it out.

it's those little things that just add so much to the fun of guitars.

That thing is great. Sunburst/black guard Mustangs are the best.

I mentioned that above--yeah, they're reversed--the pots aren't just the knobs.

Thanks, I like the look as well.

I had other finish options, but this one was the one I liked best.

Your Mustang is beautiful.

I am the proud owner of a '78 Mustang too!
I don't have a good picture of it alone, so here is the whole family :

Cheers :)
