Here are some pics of my 77 Musicmaster. This guitar was relic(ed) courtesy of Hurricane Floyd in 1999.

I had a couple of guitars that got soaked by flooding from Floyd and this is one of them. That was in 1999. I was living at a friends house at the time and I left the guitars behind thinking they were not salvageable. Fast forward 10 years and a couple of weeks ago I got to thinking about the guitars. I am much more handy now and I've been getting back into guitars over the last 3 years. I called my buddy and he told me they were still sitting in his garage for all this time. I stopped by and picked them up. At first I just pulled the neck from the Musicmaster and hung it on my wall (which I thought looked cool). I left the body of the MM in my garage.

In the mean time I rebuilt a telecaster that was damaged in the same flood. You may have seen my thread in the telecaster forum, but here is a link.

It came out amazing and I was staring at the Musicmaster neck on my wall and I figured what the hell, let's bolt the thing back together and see if it plays. It turned out that the pickup was shot, so I ordered a cheap rails style pickup from Musicians Friend which arrived today. I soldered it in and strung her up, and damn if it doesn't sound really good!!

Here are some pics. There are some deep cracks in the finish from when the wood expanded. The finish also show small cracks all across it which I believe is called crazing. The guitar is a lot more yellow than some of the pictures are showing. The first pic is more representative of it's true color. I had a hard time getting the cracks to show in the pictures.

I am thinking of re-finishinig the guitar in shoreline gold, with the supplies from re-ranch. I've never refinished a guitar before, but I don't see how I could do much harm to this one. The neck and headstock have some very nice wood grain showing. Should I re-finish it or leave it as is?

Hey Kong - cool look on the MusicMaster. I like the looks of it now, but you did such a neat job on the Tele, it may be time for you to stretch your wings a bit and try a refinish.

Who knows, it may be another neat dimension of owning and playing your guitars. I think it would be neat to try a refinish. Hey - maybe find yourself a MIM Tele or Strat at a Pawnshop or Craigslist for not much coin and do the refinish on it - you could also mod it a bit w/ the pups, pickguard, tuners, etc, that you like - then you get another guitar out of the deal!

Let us know what you do.

I took a couple more pictures and I got one to really show the finish cracks, and a couple captured the yellow a little more accurately...

Well I sold this guitar a couple of days ago for $300. I think it was a nice score for the guy who bought it. He fell in love with it the minute he started playing it...

I threw in a Fender gig bag as well.

I hear ya, man. She'll be loved

The guy who bought it said I was crazy and he'd sell it back any time LOL. I'm pretty happy about the state of my collection though. I need to fill an amp void, I might have a buyer for my CP 50s strat. Tube amp here we come.

i sold my early sixties musicmaster about 2 years ago. it was my first brand new guitar. it was a difficult decision because my parents bought it for me when i was seven.

i watched ebay for pricing, and got more money than i thought. i was looking for another guitar, and this helped pay for. it. the new owner emailed me, and told me how happy he was.

great situation- 2 winners.
