Hi.

I recently inherited a Vintage Fender guitar or so i think. Let me explain this guitar comes in a very vintage case. I have called around and surfed the net for days trying to find out what kind of guitar this is. Here is what I came up with. It is a Fender lap steel guitar. There are 2 necks each guitar 8 string. The entire base is made of what looks to be really old wood. There are no knobs on the guitar. There is a place to plug in the guitar to an amp. The wires look very vintage. I have heard this guitar called so many different things. I heard it is a lap steel, 8 String, stringmaster. All I know is this guitar looks and smells very old. I know nothing about guitars so I am trying my best to find out anything I can. Also the top where you tighten the strings it says Fender Pat Pending. There is NO numbers anywhere on this guitar that I can find. If you would like pictures which I am sure you will lol. Please feel free to email me for pictures. timt92281@yahoo.com. Image Image

Thanks so much in advance,
Tim

Do us a favor, upload the picture to www.imageshack.us and past the direct link to the image on here.

What you COULD have is a very old vintage lap steel from the early 50s or even the 40s, as fender was in the lap steel business first in either 46 or 48.

The fact that it says "pat pend." is probably a good indicator as to its age. Also, go ahead and call fender tech support, they might have a model name for you as well.

What you have LOOKS like a Stringmaster, but in a different finish. Dual Neck 8 Strings were exceedingly rare, and often they made custom instruments for certain customers. What you have could be a one-off. I'd call the custom shop or customer support and ask around... that instrument is both awesome and far beyond my mediocre iding skills.

Good luck!
