My cousin says there is a supposed 1965 Jaguar for sale. He didn't get a price, but assuming it's in nice shape how much are they valued at? and what should I offer?

What he told me..

COLOR : sunburst

NECK / FRETBOARD: mother of pearl block inlays

NECKPLATE reads this after the serial #: has large fender "F" behind in the middle

Also has transparent Body-Guard by Parker on the back of the guitar

Sounds like a 1966 Jag because that is the year they changed to block inlays. Those transparent bodyguards can be bad news as they can cause a reaction that damages the finish. Off hand I would say that a 66 Jag would sell on ebay for $1999-$2999 depending on condition.

I'm inclined to go along with Truetone, most '65s had an L prefix before the numbers and I don't think block inlays were available in 65.The price range is about right too.only custom color Jags are worth more.

Depends on the condition. I've seen a late 60s Jag go for as low as $750 on one where the neck pickup was busted.

If you're going to shell out that much for a vintage Jag, make sure you get a look at the neck stamp. It will tell you what year the neck was made, and possibly what year the guitar was assembled. Sometimes they would run a bunch of necks near the end of one year, but not attach them to a body until the next. It doesn't matter much as far as value is concerned though.

offsetguitars.com can help you with any question related to Jags, JMs, Mustangs and even really obscure models like Marauders, Electric XIIs, Bass VIs and well any good Fender that isn't a Strat and Tele. However, they're still very popular there, especially the Telecaster, as it rightfully should be.

I think there is a 66-67 Fender Jaguar at an auction on the 26th. Check out craigslist in the Elmira NY area under instruments. The pictures are awesome. There are several links to other photos. This guitar is in immaculate condition. Comes with the original case, no breaks or damage. One picture looks like something is damaged on the back, but it is just a piece of foam that has come off the body guard and slipped under the guard on the back.

This one is a real BEAUTY..!

Check out the Fender Jaguar on the Shamrock Auction site or on craigslist in Elmira NY under instruments, posted on 10/23. Is this the one you are talking about? I personally know this Jag and it is pristine..! I believe tho it is a 66, not a 65. gkketron@hotmail.com
