I'm trying to figure something out and I know someone out ther knows the answer.
I have noticed on some jazzmasters in this vintage, have rectangle bars on the neck for the F,G,A, B,D, etc. and some have the normal inlaid dots. I would like to know on what models where the rectangle inlays put on? Was this a special model? Split year thing?
I have a 62 reissue I bought new in 2000. Its my player, but do like the bigger rectangle inlays. Thinking about changing necks. Like the look much better and easier to see while playing in the darker clubs.

I think '66 would be the first year of block inlays on the Jazzmasters-also bound necks (yessss!!!) which were intended for Stratocasters, but shelved. I think both the bolcks and the binding added to the JM's looks, and were great necks to play as well-My 1971 JM has been very good to me.

I have a '66 Jazzmaster, as you can see it has 'dots' and a bound neck.
