i just acquired a fender mustang and was wondering whats the ideal string gauge to bring out it's best qualities? can the neck handle 11s?

i also recently acquired a vintage japanese made fender fat strat (HSS) with floyd rose 2 and was also wondering what string gauge is ideal for this particular set up as i am unfamiliar with guitars set up with floyd rose. the original tremolo bar was missing so i dont plan to use the floyd rose really but it'd be a hassle to have it removed and have that gaping cavity (where the floyd bridge is) filled up.

thanks in advance!

I would put 10s or 11s on the Strat and keep 9s or 10s on the Mustang.

I've used strictly 8-38 strings on my Strats and Mustang, you can almost bend them off the fretboard, then again my hands are not real big but they've done the trick for me.

When the original Mustangs, Duo Sonics and Musicmasters were designed, they originally came with 12s so I wouldn't worry about the gauge. If you want to use 11s, use them because the necks and the truss rods of Mustangs aren't weaker than those in a Strat, a Tele, etc.
