Hello, I have a hollow-body fender D'aquisto that I purchased in the early '90's. The serial number on the back is 50103495. I can't seem to find any information about it. Not even any matching pictures online. The serial number doesn't seem to correspond with any fender lists. I think it was built around 1985, but I really have no idea. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Hello Dcona,

Firstly welcome to the forum.

Sure enough Fender teamed up with Jimmy to produce
afordable archtops in the mid 80's sometime.
Jimmy didn't make them, he designed and oversaw the project,
the instruments were made in Japan, no doubt why Fender USA
has no info.

The Fender D'Aquisto standards sell for around 2k
Elites are bringing a bit more.

Treat us to a photo if you can.

Cheers.

Dcona,
Send it to me I'll tell you everything  j/k My uncle had one of those for a while (black w/ 2 p-ups). That thing was sweet. He didn't keep it very long. They are hard to come by. I've only seen 2 in my life. Once in a while the show up on eBay. That's strange that there is no letter at the beginning of the Serial number however, i did see one that only started w/ a 4 and it was listed as a 1984. I can't find any info either.

Hello Dcona & All,

Here is a link to a video featuring
Tommy Tedesco playing a fender Archyop.
Crummy sound--oh well.

Thanks Mr. Bill
I can't figure out how to upload photos, but my guitar looks exactly like one I saw on ebay. The seller called it a 1985 FENDER D'AQUISTO STANDARD - NATURAL - birdseye. I'd live with that except my serial number is different. It doesn't have any letters in front of it, just 8 numbers.
Fender wasn't very helpful about it. What do you think?

Dave

Sounds like a very, very sweet guitar. Congrats. In this opinion, James L. D'Aquisto was the Antonio Stradivari of carved top-and-back handmade guitars. The DAQ-designed, MIJ is in all likelihood outstanding.

I believe it was built in January '85 - It is my understanding that for the 8 digit serials from the 80's master series, the 1st digit was the year and the next 2 were the month. More info on that here: http://www.masterseriesguitars.com/Seri ... rinfo.html

What I cannot find however how to decode the year/month of Fender D'aquisto's with E+6 digit serials - specifically, if an E524095 was built in '84 or '85, please post if you have info
