Heading into the Canadian north for a month and couldn't be without my Fender fix.
So today bought a camping guitar a Fender acoustic model CD60CE .

We'll see how it holds up to the bush conditions :)

Hello PeterP,

Camping for a month, WOW.
A guitar would be my first piece of equipment.
Hope your trip will be fun and safe.

Cheers.

Belated Thanks :)

Some fortunately minor misadventures, one of our vehicles lost a wheel on the highway and another had a dead battery in the bush.

Some funny stuff, wife fell out of her kayak and into waist deep mud. that was hilarious :D but I can't say that out loud :D

And serendipity, we met three other couples we know at one location, camp sites right next to each other and all had packed guitars !!!
That made for a good evening campfire :D

Now I am beat and need another vacation....

Yes, but none of guitars and their people that I know of :/
Still need to find time to upload the 8gb cards from the cameras to the home computer to see what is there then push them to either the blog or photoshelter.

Will update when I've got something done. (4 day weekend coming up here in Canada for me :) )

Have fun. Personal travel guitar is a Washburn Rover which is surprisingly playable, tho not toneful.

This is something I'm kind of looking for too, except mine will be for a "cottage" guitar, I'm not much for camping.

I love my Montara, but hauling it in the case with the family and all the stuff for trips up north takes up space.

I'd love another Fender but can't justify spending $200 plus for a guitar I will only play the 5 or 6 times a summer we get up there.

Yeah, I'm cheap, any suggestions?

I did over sell myself a bit I originally wanted under 200$cdn.
and looked at a lot of cheap yamaha & noname models.
Did not like any of them, and they all came with no case.

This fender model came with a case (useful normally about 70$ extra for a hard case here ) and a built in tuner/preamp (nice to have but not really needed).
You can get the same model without the tuner/preamp for almost a hundred less.

So its actually an under 150$cdn guitar with a couple of addons :)

I actually came close to picking an Epiphone Hummingbird, but the other half was there to knock some sense back into me  the neck split on last guitar I used to take camping

Ouch I just checked sweetwater & guitar center and the fender CD-60 and CD-60CE are almost the same as what I paid here in Canada. That does not seem right.

I bought a Sonoran project for $30 from Evil-bay, supposedly it was a second with a lousy paint job and needed tuners.

It showed, cosmetically the finish flaws were livable, but before I did anything to it I had the local luthier check it out and he thought the neck was too far out of whack to be set up properly. The seller took it back but I was out $19 shipping, not a big deal.

$100-$150 would be tops for this for me.

That's why I like secondhand and pawn shops. You can try before you buy. My Ovation cost me less than $150 with gig bag. Just wanted something that sounded and played decent but wouldn't cause me to freak out everytime it banged into something. Works great for passing around the campfire or keeping the kids off the other guitars. Even got a cheap little amp to plug it into if there is power available.
