Would it be possible to mod the rhythm switch to the bridge pickup? I don't particularly care for it on the neck pickup.

Is it possible?

Not that familiar with Jazzmaster wiring but seems like it would work. I'm sure Martian would know if he catches the post.

Not sure what the sound would be like though. I usually play lead off the bridge and rhythm off the neck pickup. Guess you could always change it back if it doesn't sound right.

Have you considered swapping out the neck pup - maybe trying the Fat Jazz with Alnico V magnets? Might give you the tone you are looking for.

It is definitely possible. I don't have time to work out the wiring details at the moment, but maybe somebody who has already done it will chime in.

i have my own mod - i cut a short length off a matchstick and wedge it into the gap for the switch so it CANT MOVE when i hit it by accident! it's a cheap mod, not as messy as the gaffa so many of us JM players have used, and you don't need a technician!
...or you could rewire it to be more useful i guess...

Here's a fairly simple way to do the change:

There should be a wire coming from the neck pickup connected to one the the terminals of the circuit selector switch (i.e.. the slide switch). There should be a wire coming from the bridge pickup connected to one of the terminals of the pickup selector switch (i.e. the toggle switch). If you simply swap these two wires, you will get what you want. The only issue is that the toggle switch will now be backwards in operation, meaning that pushing it towards the neck will select the bridge pickup and pushing it towards the bridge will select the neck pickup. Rather than rewiring it, you could just loosen the switch and flip it around the other way.

Ok. Is there a way to install a strangle switch too?

I think this is what I want with the rhythm switch mod.

You rang?:D

You are probably going to have to extend both pickups' white wire leads to accomplish this:

Unsolder the white wire of the bridge pickup from the toggle switch.

Unsolder the red wire from the toggle switch and solder it to where the white wire of the bridge pickup originally was.

Unsolder the white wire of the neck pickup from the rhythm switch and solder it to where the red wire originally was on the toggle switch.

Solder the bridge pickup's white wire to where you removed the neck pickup's white wire from on the rhythm switch.

Enjoy.
