My daughter is going to turn 6 soon and wants a Hello Kitty guitar for her Birthday. Read alot of flack about how they look, but nothing from anyone who has actually played one. Is it just a cheap starter pack guitar painted pink and with a corny pickguard or does it play decent? Have been checking the local shops and haven't found one to try. Don't want to order one off Ebay and then have it just sit in the closet because it is too hard on her fingers. She does fine with the banjo and my Stagemaster but my Affinity model Strat is just too hard on her fingers. Anyone try playing one of the Hello Kitty models? Are they better than a Squier Affinity?

Any guitar is at least decent with a proper set-up.

That's true, but after buying it and taking it in for a setup I would have more invested in a pink guitar with a cheesy looking pickguard than my own guitars. That is why I was hoping to find a used one that I could try before buying. If it needed some work I could talk the shop into doing it for free to sweeten the deal or adjust the price a bit and take it somewhere else. Was hoping someone here could give me an idea how playable they are since none of the shops in town have had one. Been meaning to take the Affinity in for a setup anyway(I've got over 30 years worth of calluses and it still hurts my fingers!) so might as well paint it pink and give it to her before spending that much on a Kitty. I only play it when jamming with friends anyway - the Stagemaster has a Floyd Rose and although it is easy to get it enough in tune to sound fine by itself it sounds off when playing with others unless everyone sits around and waits for me to get it just right. Usual Floyd problem - get 5 strings in tune but 1 is little flat - tighten that one up just a little to get it in tune and it floats the bridge up flattening the other 5 so have to start over. So it gets played at home and when I go to a friend's to jam I take the Strat. If I paint the Affinity pink I'm not going to want to take it anywhere and was hoping to trade it in on a used MIM next year so would rather just find the Hello Kitty she wants. But not if the price of the Kitty and set up ends up costing more than the MIM's I've been looking at.

i have the black one and love it. it has nice action, i did switch out the pickups for a set of seymour duncan invaders and that kicked it up very nicely. overall a very good guitar for the money.

Just FYI, the hello kitty strat IS an affinity series guitar, just with the pink paint and crazy pickguard.
