A few years ago, a friend sold me a 1966 duo-sonic II. The paint job is unprofessional - and I've recently been inspired to have it professionally repainted in one of the original colors - aside from Olympic White, obviously, since the pick guard is white and not red. Everything seems to be original on it (aside from pickups). It is in 3/4 scale (22.5" neck/ 21 fret)

I want to have someone do something about the slight fret buzz also. Even though it's annoying to have to tune it so often, I'm very hesitant to replace the original heads. But I love this guitar and I don't want it to just be a collectible or decoration...I want to play it and I have no intention of selling it.

I'm just looking for any information I could get regarding the original colors it came in and another other information you can give me about this guitar.

for duo II's i think the factory paint options were dakota red and daphne blue. i'd go blue.

real sexy in that green. i'd leave it alone.

plus, have you had this beauty ever set up? if not, i'd recommend you get it.

if you have fret buzz, it probably needs:

* a new nut -or-
* fret dress -or-
* intonation set up -or-
* all of the above.

good luck, and let me know how it turns out.

thanks much. I agree, the color is nice. But I really like the idea of having an original color (plus, from up close, you can tell it wasn't professionally painted - no clear coat and the green is kind of unevenly applied). I haven't decided between the d.blue or d.red yet.
Yeah, I think I'll have some fellas from my local shop take a look at it. I'm thinking the frets need a little work as well as some electrical work (there's a short in one of the switches.)
I'll post pictures whenever I get it done.
