Ok.
They soung great,
They Look great,
They play very well.
My only beef is the switches get in my way when I play.
I always hit 'em.
There's my humble opinion.
I say go for it.

do you actually move the switches when you hit em or do you just hit em? i would imagine (since they move left/right not up/down) they wouldnt move... but then again i havent had one in a "heat of the moment" live situation before.

They rub on the base of my thumb.
It's uncomfortable with my technique.
I have to plant my hand on the bridge, the whole time.
But that's not to say you don"t play in a different way, with other folks it is quite comfortable.
I really do like the Mustang's.

They sound great-Check
They Look great-Check
They play very well-Check

Plus they're fun to play.
The short scale makes them a great guitar to learn tricky stuff on.
I love the subtle vibrato--I find mine stays in tune very well.
The in & out of phase options gives you some tonal variations I like to use.

And I have never hit the switches on mine while playing--so you may be more like either one of us than the other--but check it out.

I never hesitate to recommend that someone give a Mustang a serious try.

Whether or not you but it is up to you and whether or not the Mustang bonds with you.

I can't imagine giving mine up.
I've been tempted in the past to sell or trade it for another guitar or amp I get GAS for, but then sanity prevails, and I realize I prefer my Mustang.

It's not my only guitar--or even my number one, but I love it.

Not necessarily.
It depends on the quality of the build & the condition.

I'd certainly try to get it for less, but it's not necessarily being ripped off.

yes, it is getting ripped off. they go all day long on ebay for $500+.

they're all built great, they're all built in Japan. you can get a vintage USA one for less than a grand if you're smart.

if your $@! is just beggin for a reaming... yeah, go pay a grand.

I don't trust ebay.

I wouldn't pay $1000 for a new one, but an older MIA one with an ash body in good shape--maybe. But like I said--I'd try to get it for less.

I'll pay extra to be able to buy in person and try it out first--the extra is worth it to me-peace of mind and all that.

But then I don't have to--I already have one.

i've bought 3 mustangs (and countless other guitars) on ebay. a 69RI (my first guitar - sold), a 65RI (sold), and a 73RI (sold), and recently bought a 73 body that i'm currently building.

all guitars were in great shape, and didn't pay more than $500 before shipping for any of them. anything wrong with them can be fixed, and if it can't, most places other than individuals offer returns if it's defective.

ebay is about being smart. i actually just bought my second jaguar on there for $600 shipped, and it's brand new (well, like brand new) and i got it last wednesday, and played a show the next night with it.

be smart. if you don't trust ebay (where billions of people buy everyday), you're doing something wrong.

craigslist, maybe?

I like to touch guitars before I buy them--I'm picky that way.

I'm with you. I wouldn't buy a musical instrument sight unseen. I'm too picky for that.

I've played too many guitars side by side of the same model and noticed differences to take it for granted.

My son plays a '66 Mustang which I got for cheap when I lived in Ireland.
He loves it and always plays this as opposed to several other guitars he owns.
He told me that recently a '67 went for £4500 GBP on ebay. So they do hold the price if they are the originals.

I am building him a Telecaster style guitar at the moment and I am hoping the sound comes out similiar to the Mustang.
