They were not pulled, they were a limited edition. I passed up buying a new one, for $350, right after I got my Craigslist treasure, for $180. I should have bought it. By all means hang on to this guitar, it will increase in value.

I liked these so much I got one.

Who knows if they'll increase in value or not? I guess that would be determined if I went to sell mine. Got it for a song, I thought, on Evil-bay for $250 including shipping. The neck is fast, the HB pup is super hot, now if I just had more talent 8)

Just in fantastic shape. I really went on a limb since I bought it based on my love of Strat's and it's overall appearance. I had never played one. It's just been a sweet guitar from day one.

Amazing that there are still a few of these guitars around in brand-new condition, and selling for basically what they were going for in 2005! Although made in Korea, the quality level of the components on these instruments is really surprisingly good. For a street price of about $460 at that time, you got a real Fender Stratocaster, complete with bridge humbucker and single-coil neck pickup, 500K tone and volume controls with a nice fluid feel, a graphite nut, smooth locking precision machine tuners, a two-point floating bridge, a choice of two flashy paint jobs with no pickguard and a matching painted headstock, plus a very thin and fast neck! Most sites list the fretboard radius at 9 3/4, but in reality it is in the 15 to 16-inch range. I was fortunate enough to find one of each color unplayed on eBay, and they now reside on my home office wall (see picture at http://s396.photobucket.com/albums/pp47 ... tarVie.jpg).

My overall experience with the Fender Tie-Dye Stratocaster has been positive. Before you chastise me for not playing the instruments, I also have an additional "Band of Gypsys" model, that I use regularly for gigs. Once setup properly, these guitars play and sound fantastic! The only minor complaints would be that I don’t particularly like screw-in tremolo bars, and if you look close you can see a few tiny nicks in the wood that should have been filled prior to painting. Also, I could not get used to the omission of fret markers, and had them added at a local shop. At the same time, I had the 20th fret leveled, which was slightly higher than the adjacent wires. Lastly, the wiring was functional, but certainly would not win any neatness awards! Yes, there were a few hours of my time spent performing some re-manufacturing and setup work (see http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-MsLChV41 ... 2vOaL?p=29 for details), and a small cost for services at the guitar shop, but this is just a normal part of making a guitar my own. This $425 Stratocaster now plays like an expensive model, looks like a custom, and sounds really, really good! I would buy it again without reservation. Best regards, Dana

Those are awesome, somedayif I find another deal I'd love to have the blue one as well.

Your comment about being chastised for not playing them struck me as funny, since I've been chastised by people for playing mine. It is just to smooth and comfortable to NOT play.

Very cool photos.

Thanks for the nice comments! Actually, I have seen two other "Hippie Blue" models listed on eBay since April, both used but supposedly not abused. Prices seem to range from $300 to $400. From various semi-reliable sources, I have been told that this was a Limited Edition, with only 100 (presumably of each color) having been produced. Because of the time (2004-2005) they were introduced by Fender, the design and colors may not have been too well received; judging by the lack of interest on eBay (most are not sold), that may still be the case. Too bad, because these are really nice looking and playing instruments! Best regards, Dana

If I remember, weren't they MIM standard Strats that had the Tye Dye design on them? They were out around 6-7 years ago and only lasted a few months before they were pulled,I believe. I know they weren't out that long.

The Tie Dye Strats were a limited edition made from Jan 2004 to Oct 2005. They were made in Korea. No I would not sell it, it sounds great.

I recently bought a Korean-made Tie Dye Strat and am providing generally the info. I found available on the internet about it so it may be useful to owners of Tie Dye Strats.Fender list some specs on their website including wiring diagram.I personally like the range of sounds from the guitar and the specs seem pretty good. There don't seem to be too many of these appearing on the internet.
Made in Korea approx 2004-05.Tie Dye photographic patterns are 'Band of Gypsies' or 'Hippie Blue' on front of body with matching headstock.Back and sides of body are black.Slab basswood body, approx same flat dimensions as a Standard Strat and the Tie Dye is slightly thicker. There is a sharp radius to the body but has the front and back comfort contours.
Maple neck, thick rosewood 22-fret fingerboard.Position marker dots on the side of neck only.No skunk stripe.Scale length 25.5 inches (648mm).Width at nut 1.625 inches.Graphite nut.Black cast sealed locking tuners-Schaller?,Gotoh?.All hardware black including jackplug socket.Three-way pickup selector switch with one master volume and tone control.Brass tremolo block with two tension springs.Two-point synchronised tremolo with black angled tremolo bar.Noiseless neck single coil pickup, custom bridge humbucker (nice balance between the two).Jumbo frets.
Interested to have comments from Tie Dye owners.

Just picked up one of these (loved the neck and should be a functional backup for my AmDeluxe) but haven't been able to nail down exactly what it was loaded with. Clearly OEM as the thing is mint, but other than, not much to go by.
