I bought a "tie dye strat" this summer (the shop had good sale) and wondered if any of you all have played one, if so, what your opinions are. I didn't even play it; price was right, I'm green as grass, and I liked the look of it. I've had fun playing it since, but wondered how a "real" player would rate it for playability, sound, etc. Being a discontinued model, it makes me wonder why. I use a FM 25R amp. Opinions on the amp too?

I've never seen or played a tie dyed Strat before. How about posting a picture of one. I have played a paisley Strat, and it sounded fine. Not extraordinary, not awful, just a good solid guitar.

Thanks for the reply; I'll see if I can figure out how to post a picture, but it will have to wait a week since he's at the shop at the moment getting his neck adjusted and a fret filed... The low E and A buzz against the frets, and the sound stops at one of the high frets when bending the B string. Are these kinds of adjustments usual with a new guitar?

I loved the finishes offered for the tie die series. They stopped 'em b/c they were LIMITED EDITION not b/c they didn't sell. That's all. I think it was also a pricey finish and if so, that wouldn't help either....

Thanks for posting that link, since I can't post a photo of mine - yeah, that would be it, I have the purple, blue and black one. The salesman's comment when I was looking for a guitar that was fairly inexpensive but not bottom of the barrel, was something along the lines of "nice guitar for the money, if you can deal with the color" (I rather like the color, myself). It had been around a while and was marked down to less than half original list.

Oh yeah, forgot to add that it's back from the shop and I'm really pleased with how it plays now.

I've got my "Hippie Blue" last summer. Its my first electric guitar, so I can't really compare it to other types. Still, here is my humble rewiew on the Fender Strat Tie-Dye:

The guitar feels like 'the real thing'. It just feels right. The guitar is easy to play. The finish is great - and it sounds good too. Nice, long sustain! The only drag is that psyco color (I guess that is the reason for the good price in the store)

I guess I have to be pretty drunk to appear on a public gig with an axe like that...! Or - maybe - I someday get used to it. ;-)

Oh yeah I've seen those before. Shouldn't this be in the strat forum?

Well FarNorth, I guess you and I are the only ones who have one of these things! I've been playing it for about 7 or 8 months now, and I agree with you that it's very easy to play. Love the smooth, fairly small neck (compared to my acoustic), fits my hand really well. Love that psycho color too... I will say that I tried a Highway 1 and a standard strat for the T-shirt last month, and although I want both of them now :D , the necks felt a little bigger, or at least different.

I was browsing Craigslist and there it was. The black, yellow and red? Anyway, I pick it up tonight after work. I really look forward playing it. I have a 98 Super Strat in crimson red that is my main practice guitar.[/img]

So how is the guitar?

Even here in Central WI I listed my Dakota pickup on Craigslist yesterday and a potential buyer is coming by tonight to check it out.

Is it the blue/purple tie dye or the orange/yellow one? I think those are awesome looking but never had the chance to play one.

Wanna trade for a 95 MIM Sunburst STrat? :D

Well, it has been some time since I picked mine up. It is the Band of Gypsies: black, yellow, orange and they are made in Korea. I play blues and I like this guitar for that purpose. I got used to the neck very quickly, it is like the wizard neck on the Ibanez (Flat and Fast). I really enjoy this guitar when I play it. :D

98 Deluxe Super Strat crimson red
04 Tie Dye Band of Gypsies
08 Custom Strat: Ebony fretboard 9.5-12 radius HSS Tobacco Burst
90 Ibanez RG770 Laser Blue
04 Ibanez AF85 Violin Burst
08 Gibson LP Studio Artic White Ebony fretboard
07 G&L ASAT Tribute Sunburst
90? Tradition T10 surf green
90? Tradition S20 black
09 Custom Nashville Tele (in progress)
I can't stop!

Update:
I checked the build sheet I got from Fender and the radius is actually 9.5, I thought it was flatter.
