If anyone has any information e.g. model number, the year it was made, colour, anything that will help me track it down in guitar shops.

Im in love with this guitar, so any help with it is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.[/img]
Not sure on the specifics of that one, but it may have been modded--or maybe he taped over the switches to keep them from moving--which would only make sense if he bumps them while playing--which I'm not sure how you'd do that--or maybe he just thinks it looks cool.

But basically there aren't a whole lot of variations on the Mustang. The body contours changed a bit, the machine heads have changed. As far as the MIJ ones--I've heard they used some different woods. But they really aren't a lot of variations.

It's kind of cool though that the bass player has a Mustang Bass.

Do you want that Mustang because of how it looks--or for other reasons.

I know you said you want a Mustang anyway.

So get a Mustang with a maple fingerboard.

If it's been modded--sorry, can't help you.

Yeah I want that exact mustang because of how it looks and a few months ago I actually played a very similar one and I loved it haha!

I basically just want to be able to ask for it in a shop etc and the guy uunderstands what I want.. Do you know when it was released to buy, the model or issue number etc..? I want to be able to walk into a shop and say, "Im looking for Fender Mustang (Year), antigua body, maple neck" and they will know the one im after.

Or where there no mustangs produced in that colour? If so, is it a case of me buying the same design/year Mustang and just changing the body to antigua and the face to black?

Thanks for your help mate.

Well, it's not an antigua finish--unless that was just an example of a finish--or the darker part has faded.

Here's an antigua Mustang-along with several antigua Fenders-
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FhzKbwesETE/SP-Kn8ihWqI/AAAAAAAAAUM/UeFUwDgZXxU/s1600-h/collantig3.jpg

I like them.

I'm not sure what the official color name would be--but the one you pictured is a cream type colour--so ask for (or say you're looking for) a Mustang with a cream finish & a black pickguard.

Maybe that will work.

I realize the importance of getting the right look.
My Mustang is actually the body from one Mustang and the neck from another.

The beautiful sunburst body had a maple board & the rosewood board had a brownish type finish I wasn't crazy about. The store offered to swap necks--so I went for the rosewood board on the sunburst body.

If you want the maple fingerboard--mention that too. But pickguards & necks should be easy to swap.

The two Mustangs that made up mine are very similar to the middle & right ones in this link--although the pictures a bit blurry.

The one you want is similar to the one on the left--maybe it's a 78 or 79?

Anyway here's mine-an old picture-and here's hoping you find the one you're looking for.

Thats a sweet Mustang man, very nice. :D

Yeah about the picture you gave via link, the mustang on the left is really similar so im gonna go down that direction and modify it so it matches the one I want.

Thanks so much for your help, im ready to go hunt this guitar down now, so if I get it anytime soon expect plenty of pictures and many thanks.
Thanks again mate, regards.
