Hi All,

I'm new to the forum (been lurking for awhile) and finally signed up after reading the hate posts on the Wolfgang price. Thought I would share my 2cents on this hot topic....
I bought the Wolfgang when it came out in January. I couldn't be more thrilled with this guitar. I've been reading how people feel it's too expensive, and how Eddie is "greedy", etc. This couldn't be more wrong. I can't speak for Ed personally, but I can say that this guitar is unique and unlike any other instrument on the market. When Eddie says he spent 2 years designing and testing this guitar, he wasn't kidding. When you buy a Knopfler Strat, Mark didn't spend 2 years on that guitar....it's a 50 year old design with a unique paint color and the same features of thousands of Strats before it. The Wolfgang, on the other hand, is not a copy of anything, not even the previous Peavey version (I own that too).
Let's face it, Eddie makes millions touring the world, that's his livlihood and kudos to him for being successful at it. If he's going to give up 2 years of his time for R&D on a new instrument, you can best believe he needs to be compensated for that time. Not to mention the dozens of other people at Fender who devoted their time and talent to this project. So yes, $3,000 is the price. And it covers the materials, labor, R&D, licensing fee to use Eddie's name, and profits to keep Fender in business. Nothing wrong with that in my book.
And to say Eddie is "greedy"...well, I applaud a guy who gave us 30 years of a$$-kicking music and then had the insight to share his tone tricks and equipment ideas with the world, thus making them available to anyone that can afford. Try and find a Les Paul Std for less than $3,000. And the Custom is $3900! I say the Wolf is a steal. Thanks Eddie for making this guitar available to guys who can appreciate a quality instrument!
And that's my 2cents! Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the forum! I am will to pay $3000 plus for a Custom made guitar that I want. I know a lot of posters say they would never pay that kind of money for any guitar, but I'm a true believer in the saying "You get what you pay for". If a $200 guitar is all you need and want that's fine by me and I'm happy for you. So, in short Congratulations for getting what "You" wanted! 8)
I would love to see some pictures! 8)

EVHguy,Well I am one of the guys who called Eddie greedy and being a big VanHalen fan myself I feel I have a right to express my thoughts on him.First let me just say to you Hendrix was the old testament of rock nobody thought the guitar could go further then Eddie came a long and I consider him the second testament he took it to another galaxy and all these guys they say tapped before him my $@!.I have listened where they said heres a tap in 74 by whoever and it sounds like a hammer on or a pulloff .Tapping as it is known today is Eddies bag totaly. The guy is a total genius musicaly technicaly he is also like les paul inventing things, workin on the floyd ,inventing the d-tuna,the 5150 amp,the wolfgang which I own 4 of and is the only non Fenders I own but I love them they are slamming. But as far as what happened with the band I always believed him when he said it was Dave ,it was Sammy, but when he gave michael Anthony the boot I realized it is Eddie, and I dont blame the guy for being a perfectionist but everyone I read he worked with on things all said he is difficult and this turn with Fender will be no differant believe me.But every time he does a new guitar he says the same thing.Cmon charging $25,000 for that guitar he built with $200 in used parts robbing us of great music for 10 years because of petty squables not right bbut hey I still love the guy.NOW LETS GET TO THE NEW FENDER WOLFGANG NOW I KNOW THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN KNOCK THE PEVEY I HAVE BEEN A FENDER GUY 25+YEARS BUT I HAVE 4 WOLFGANGS 2 STOPTAIL 2 FLOYDROSE THOSE ARE GREAT GUITARS I CANT FAULT ANYTHING WITH THEM,ANFD IF YOU LOOK ON EBAY THERE GOING OFF THE CHART FOR WHAT THERE ASKING FOR THEM NOW.BUT NOW WE TEAM FENDER WITH EDDIE YOU CANT ASK FOR A BETTER TEAM BUT TELL ME AS I HAVE NOT PLAYED THE NEW WOLF HOW IT IS IMPROVED.I HEAR THE STAINLESS STEAL FRETTS ARE GREAT I DONT LIKE THE HEAD STOCK. BUT I DONT REALLY SEE SUCH A BIG CHANGE AND CMON ONLY 3 COLORS THOSE PEAVIES HAD SOME OF THE BEST COLORS AND NICEST FINISHES I HAD EVER SEEN ON A GUITAR AND HOW ABOUT THE $300 PLUS DOLLARS MORE FOR TOBBACCO BURST THATS NOT A RIP OFF.EV PLEASE LET US KNOW YOUR HONEST THOUGHTS

Hi there! 1st time to the forum : ) Interesting comments on the new Wolfgang. I'd honestly love to own one but the price is a bit steep for me right now given my financial situation - do you think they'll come out with a less expensive version in the future (like the Peavey "Specials/Special Deluxe"?

Thanks for reading my post! All great comments. I love a discussion on Wolfgangs!
As the owner of both (Vintage White EVH Wolf, Trans Amber Peavey Wolf) here's the differences as I see it:
1. Neck profile is wider, flatter and thinner across the back on the new Wolf. Old Wolf has nice figured birdseye maple on fingerboard AND neck, new Wolf is fingerboard only. I miss that but I imagine figured woods are getting harder to come by these days, at least for a reasonable price. The neck is the beauty of this guitar, IMO.
2. Frets (stainless steel on the new Wolf)....no wear and even intonation for the life of the guitar. I like that!
3. Pickups - new Wolf pickups are cleaner, lower output and more articulate than Peavey version. They sound cleaner to my ears and more "musical" if you will thru my high gain amps. Individual note clarity is impressive, I've yet to come across this with SD and DiMarzio's I'm used to.
4. Case is highly durable SKB version with plush interior and ATA latches, plus cool striped design. Much higher quality than previous Peavey case.
5. Trans flame tops on the Peaveys are super nice, and right up there with the PRS tops. I do like the new Magna Coatings paint on the EVH Wolf, it's thinner and not quite as glossy as the poly finishes on the Peaveys. But, since the new Wolf is a pilot launch, only 3 colors are initially available. I imagine that if sales are good, they will introduce more color options next year at NAMM.
6. I play better, sound better, and look cooler with the new Wolf. I even got taller and lost a few pounds. I also married Valerie Bertinelli and live in a mansion in the Hollywood Hills now. All thanks to this guitar. LOL

Thanks EVHGUY, I must say that I am going to have to test drive one now and in the long run I will probably have one in the collection. But I think you are right about the color schemes so no matter I will wait a bit and see if they come up with some new colors as I have T-RED,AMBER,CHERRY BURST,AND TOBBACO BURST.So there is no problem color wise as I have been looking for an IVORY with Black binding on EBAY the last few months and Fender is offering that. But I just dont like that there hitting the public for an extra $300 for a burst when PEAVEY who is a small company in comparison did not.KEEP ON ROCKIN
