Hi,

I know this is a bit of a no brainer question but can any one let me know the correct way to restring early 70s Competition Mustang.

My query is in regards to the saddle as there are string wear marks on both sides. (Top & bottom)

3 options are

1/ Strings go straight through saddle
2/ Strings go reverse into saddle and fold over the saddle
3/ Strings go reverse into saddle and fold under saddle.

I'm pretty sure that its option 3 but just wanted to check.

Thanks in advance

I don't know if this helps, but here's a few images of how mustangs are normally strung.

#3 is correct as you surmised--except it's actually the tailpiece, not the saddle you mean---the saddle is the part of the bridge the string always goes over and rests on.

I've seen people string them up the other ways--but the vibrato doesn't work properly--and the bridge has to be adjusted, and the action and intonation are terrible.

So #3. the string is put through the tailpiece from the pickup side, then under the tailpiece and over the bridge saddle.

Here's a good resource for Mustangs-

And I also say that as a Mustang owner.

Through the saddle towards the tail, then under and back up to the tuners.
