The Jaguar Baritone sounds great--you can play chords on arpeggios like a bass. It's got a sweet sound with normal amping--but when you add distortion it becomes the evil twin metal monster--not that there's anything wrong with that. Looks cool, sounds better. The fixed bridge is nice touch.

It does sound smooth. I'll try to put something up when I get a chance. It's simple to play, really. The chord shapes all stay the same.

If I could, I'd buy the Bass VI N.O.S.--but Ijust can't justify that kind of money ($3000). You can use this very much like a bass or a guitar--amp it to an overdriven guitar amp, and feel like you are a metal god, play it clean, or hook it up to a bass amp (I have an AMPEG BA-115, and the Baritone sounds great on it). It's almost like having those weird 2 neck concoctions of 6 and 12 string, or guitar and bass--but much easier to use. Really!

Hey

I just bought one of these! I got it on saturday and I love it. I have a lot of standard guitars and basses, but the baritone special is, well, special!

It has a weird tone (good weird)! Not quite a bass, but on it's way. I have a few amps for bass/ guitar and a Line 6 Pod XT Pro with the bass amp expansion. It really records well as a bass. For guitar parts it's got a great sustaining chime, warm tone and plenty power.

One thing I find is how great it sounds clean, playing a bass melody underneath a guitar part all at once. The long scale and heavy strings really add to the tone quality here with great sustain and power, plus a really low growl just like a bass when amped for that purpose.

The strings tend to ring out with an almost piano like chime - very nice.

With distortion it is a beast - the humbuckers do a really good job of translating the powerful bass through and with silly mega-heavy sounds it sounds great!

I might also mention how easy it is to play. The heavy strings are really easy to manipulate and it's nowhere near as stiff as I thought it would be. Quite a free feel.

Check out this guy on Youtube:

It's a good example of the clean, pseudo bass thing.

There's this... OK these guys are annoying, especially the guy with the camera  but try to suffer it since it's a good example of the potential using extreme distortion. Notice how good it sounds higher up the fretboard!

I hope this helps a bit. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking to expand their guitar universe and try new things.

Since I got the Jaguar Baritone Special HH I have been enjoying a new streak of creativity just from having a new sound to play with. It's a lot of fun!
