'Am a firm believer, the Jazzmaster is one of the world's truly great guitars, period.

Listen to some Ventures albums. A bunch. Make your own opinion from there.

In this opinion, veritably all guitar music can be happily played on a Jazzmaster and sound outstanding.

Over the last 14 years, 'have personally used one for lounge, jazz, surf, world, 60s rock, pop, classical (picked), folk rock, British invasion, country....

Again, in this opinion, with the ES-335, LP/SG, Stratocaster, Mosrite Mk I and Tele, the Jazzmaster is a world-class versatile guitar.

Mine is an original '60. Had to have a guitar for an upcoming gig and the Chicago store (here in Tucson) was out of Strats, which is what I went in for. All they had was an Olympic white Jazzmaster with a gold anodized pickguard which they agreed to sell me for the same price as the Strat. Have never looked back or been unhappy as I was a commercial musician (you play what they pay you to) and it handled it all wih ease. I much later bought one of the '60th anniversary Strats and am happy with it too so I guess you pays your money and, etc. etc... Am playing through a '65 reissue Twin Reverb and it sounds just like my original Twin Reverb with both guitars so no complaints. Also have a 125th anniversary Gretsch Electrophonic and still prefer the two Fenders....

My jazzmaster is an indispensable instrument. Everybody on here asking "is it good for this type of music?" the answer is yes, a thousand times yes.

Before I go further, I should say that I have a 96 CIJ Jazzmaster with Jason Lollar pickups, so it's not exactly the same instrument as a new AVRI.

The 1 Meg pots make a big difference in versatility. With tone and volume cranked on the bridge pickup, you get a suitable tele-like sound with tons of twang. Turn on the overdrive and you get a SCREAMING lead, which can be great for classic rock or modern alternative.

In the middle position with the tone and volume at about 7, you get a transparent, acoustic-electric kind of sound, perfect for rhythm parts. It's also great for that strange, Radiohead-esque haunting riffs. The bridge position is also good for rhythm but I prefer the middle.

The tremolo is awesome, I much prefer it to the strat tremolo, but the bridge has it's problems. Fortunately, a buzz stop is a quick, easy and cheap solution as it drastically increases string tension.

The only thing I'd say a JM isn't good for is metal and ultra-hard music, but I don't really play it so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

To anyone who has a JM and doesn't think they get this kind of stuff out of it, definitely check out the Lollar pickups.

I'm a Beatles fan and love playing along with their records, so I bought an Epiphone Casino, figuring it would be the best way to match their tone. Ended up returning it as the Jazzmaster sounded 100x more like the record. The Casino couldn't keep up with the insane treble you can get from a JM.

Beatles didn't use Fenders too often except for on Rubber Soul, and to my knowledge none of them ever had a Jazzmaster, but it's just a chameleon of an instrument.

I don't know about that. I hear a lot of Fender on the last couple of albums, and of course they used the Fender Bass VI on these as well. Listen to Octopus's Garden and Come Together, for some examples of good Fender stuff.

Oh absolutely, I was talking more about the guitar. Harrison played Rocky on some stuff here and there in the later career. And his rosewood tele is on some of it too. But by and large on all the mid-late records the casino is most prevalent, cause that was all both John and Paul used.

The Fender VI was all over the end of the Beatles, but they used it as a bass more than a guitar.

George Harrison used a pyschedelic painted Strat (by himself) which started out as a pale blue. Their roadie bought two blue Strats for George and John at their request. I could look up the dates but it is in the book "50 years of the Fender Strat" but I just don't feel like pulling it out right now.

That would be Rocky. You don't hear it as much later on cause he had it set up for slide. Rocky, when it was still Sonic Blue, was probably the guitar of the Nowhere Man solo earlier on though.

edit: You do see Rocky in the Magical Mystery Tour film.

Anyone know if the neck pocket on a Jazzmaster is the same as a Strat? I think it is, but I'm not sure.
