Hey folks,

I'm hoping that some of the knowledgeable people here can give me some info on this cool little Jag-Stang I just got.

First off, I'd like to say that I'm an experienced player, and that this little guitar has made a very good impression on me. I love the feel of the neck, and it's just a super comfortable guitar to play, either standing or sitting.

I got it used from a local shop, and the folks there are really great to deal with, but they didn't seem to know a lot about this model.

I dated it to the '02 to '04 range on the daterproject site, mabe in Japan of course. It's the red model, and is in nearly new, unmolested condition.

Now, for my questions.

The pickup switches seem pretty straight forward at first glance, and I know the neck switch controls the phase of that pickup, but once I got it home and started playing, I could not figure out why the bridge pickup has a 3 position switch. It sounds the same in either the forward or back position, so that is what has me baffled.

Is there any difference in the two positions? I looked around the net for an hour or so, and couldn't come up with anything, and it appears that Fender does not offer a owner's manual in PDF on this model.

Second question.

It seems these guitars were issued at two different times here in the USA, and this one seems to be from the later batch, and would be considered a re-issue, I assume.

Other than the fact that the first releases were from the 50th anniversary year, which would be considered the more desirable issue, the earlier or the later?

What I mean is, are there certain features to either issue that would make them more in demand?

Thanks to anyone that answers. I'm an info nut when it comes to my guitars. I like to know them inside out, and I'm hoping there are a few folks like me here that don't mind sharing info with a new owner.

Any info on these cool guitars that you'd care to share would be much appreciated, regardless of whether it relates to my questions or not.

the pickup switch configurations should be identical to the mustang.

i can't remember what they mean, but i think towards the bridge is off, middle is on, and towards the neck is on/out of phase.

i believe the first issue's are more desirable, but people will buy either one. the first runs were always a little nicer, neck and pickup wise IMHO. the second run looked even more rushed than the first.

i'd get new pickup and guts. tuners were ok in the vintage sense. definitely lock the tremolo, because it is the prime source for tuning issues with those.

Both switches are 3 position, with the middle position being the "off" setting for both.

I looked at the manuals for the Mustang, but it really is of no help.
