You might have a nice find or not, is it playable, is it in good condition. I have a 67 Mustang and I have seen it valued as high as 1500.00, but it all depends on the condition and sound. As mentioned ealier upload some pictures it would really help. Oh yea by the way I will offer you 55.00 on the spot sight unseen.

I'll go $62.50 :D

Seriously, besides the pictures (minimum needed for any kind of evaluation), you would also want to see if you can piece together a history. Knowing the history of a vintage item can add to value, even if it's never been in famous hands.

For instance, tracing the guitar to someone who played in a known local band back when could make it of more interest to some collectors. There may also be some sentimental value once you know the history. History could include a receipt, old pictures showing the guitar in action and so on.

I'll bid $75.

It's hard to give a value sight unseen--but if it's in decent shape--it could bring in a nice bundle--but me?
I'd wipe it clean, put on new strings--and play it.

Depends what shape its in, if its in quite good nick it could go for quite a bit. i saw 2 Mustangs from 1965 on ebay one was going for £607 the other for over £800. If i were you though i'd keep it and play it, it probably sounds great.

With no pics I'd bid about 80 for it.

I have a 67 Mustang with serial# 184829. I brought it to a consignment shop and was told that without the case and the body "stripped" it's worth about $600 and offered me $300 cash for it.

Is there a way that you can tell if it was "stripped"? Can you find out the original color by the serial number?

Thank you.

I own a 67 Mustang, it came to me black I don't believe they made them that color in 67. ChrisTran you said you can tell by the serial number what color the guitar is, can you tell me how. What color goes with what numbers?

This was stripped--unless it was a custom job Fender didn't make any natural finish guitars with wood that was mismatched that way. It looks nice to me though.

It would affect the value--but I've seen modified late 70's Mustangs go for prices in the neighbourhood of $1000, so while those days may be gone for now, you should still be able to get more than $300 for it.

Sell it privately & you should be able to get more than $600.

There are Mustang overs out there that buy them to play, not to collect them or re-sell them.

If you try to sell something to anyone who's going to re-sell it, you usually take a big cut in what you get. Sometimes it's worth it to avoid various hassles--but you can easily get more than $300 for that. I'd pay more than $300 for it, if I were in the market for another Mustang.

I was asking if someone could do that. Sorry.

Zontar, thanks for your input. For $300, I think I will keep it to play.

You could always email fender consumer relations and see if they can tell you by the serial number. I doubt they have records back that far, but you could try.

That's what I would do--I love Mustangs.
