Actually, if you listen to some of the older material or live material, you'll find that Billie Joe is actually a pretty talented guitarist.

That may well be (although he has never impressed me) but that hardly qualifies him for a signature model, as far as I am concerned. It all has to do with artistry, longevity, and significant mpact on the craft. Maybe would could talk about Billy Joe in 10 or 15 years....Maybe

I agree. There are not many people that could honestley say that Nirvana didn't change the world though. Kurt was the frontman of the band and he brought music that was going a different direction to the masses. whether one likes or dislikes Kurt Cobain or Nirvana, no-one can deny that they won't live on forever as one of the greates rock bands in history not because of their immense talent but because of what they did. Can't say that about Green Day. :o

i think some of you are being totally juvenile and naive about this whole issue.

kurt didn't want a signature guitar, and to say he 'doesn't deserve' one is just silly. he did more for music in the first 3 years of the 90's than any other band has done since. think of the last trio to outsell that band (outsell means you must sell to everyone with figures like those).

who do you think deserves one if kurt doesn't? he might not have done the most technically wowzer fireworks hair metal posing solos and utter mystifying fretwork, but he did make music that sounded good, and was as clear as day. if you can't understand the beauty of it, then you're trying not to, or you're just musically inept.

he may not have a guitar with his signature on the headstock, but he does have a guitar with "designed by" on the headstock. it was fender's choice to $@!& it up.

I agree, and I think Kurt would laughing about the matter 'cause he was an antimarket guy, He wouldn't have a signature to sell more, this bestselling kind of life adressed him to a contradiction that he payed by had become the killer of his own murder.

Kurt Cobain does not deserve a signature model. Period.

Gotta disagree. Kurt was genius at writing rock songs that were catchy and just enough pop to get tons of radio play. He stayed consistant 'til the end.

Anyone who thinks Kurt wasn't a good player needs to listen to in Utero a few times. The riffs on that album are damn creative. He did write some good solos as well. Examples would be Blandest, Verse Chorus Verse (sappy), In Bloom and Serve the Servants. He was no Steve Vai, but the guy had creativity up the wazoo.
I don't see why someone said J Mascis didn't deserve his sig Jazzy, cuz that's nuts. He's used them for 20 years steady and his playing is absurdly good. He plays blistering solos that actually are melodic and pleasing, rather than just flying around on the neck trying to sound complicated.
IMHO, the next person to get a sig Fender should be Jim Campilongo.

fact is the signature guitars are usually guitar asked for by the artist and used as a different version.
kurt cobains guitar was a humbucker mustang(usually) and the jag-stang and you can buy those (although i dont think the jag-stang is available any more)...they dont have his name on it but honestly (besides the additional stuff) what so great about sig models.

They Sell? Really well, sometimes... And, at the end of the day, Fender likes making money.

I think you all are missing the point of signature guitars. The biggest idea behind signature editions behind these "talented or talentless" guitarists is that they have a very unique setup and sound that you can't get from just buying a standard guitar.

People love their artists music, style, genre, clothing and guitars. We're all hypocrites if we say we're totally original. Every artist is influenced by another.

People get signature models because people wanna play and sound just like these people they admire. It doesn't matter if they were superior guitarists or talented songwriters or not. People like the guitars the artist used and would buy them if they had the chance. But we get factory made copies. All companies do it, all genres have it, whether it be music or not.

I suppose your entire set up just happened to sound or be a lot like your favorite artist?
