Hi I'm new this board so please be patient.
I'm starting a very interesting restoral on my 65 Jag, it was refinished candy apple red over the original CAR finish, I tried using a medium abrasive paste in one point under the pickguard to see if I could get to the original finish and after about an hour of using the paste with some cotton puffs, I got through to the original finish.
Now I'm thinking of doing the whole guitar (I know most of you will think I'm crazy!!!) but I just can't look at it anymore knowing that the original beauty of this guitar is horribly covered.
I will accept any opinions and help getting through this job... I am not a luthier just a normal amp tech.
My question is about the headstock.... it was refinished aswell and there's a cheap Fender Jaguar water decal on there... I would like to know how Fender finished there headstocks... was the decal over or under the lacquer coat?
thankyou for any help at all

That sounds like a fun project. If you screw it up, you could always just repaint it back how it was when you got it. I was wondering about the headstock logos too. I think its over the paint, under the lacquer.
