Is the Starcaster sold by Sam's Club OK to learn on or is it a piece of crap that one would outgrow too quickly and just be disappointing? I'd like to start out cheaply, if I can.

Does anyone know where I can find a manual for the starcaster. This website doesn't even seem to recognize the name "starcaster" except the version from 1975. Should I just use the Stratocaster info?

I'd step up a notch and go with a Squier standard. Or find something used on ebay, etc. I wouldn't bother with the Starcasters.

The Starcaster is not bad for a starter guitar. You will have to end up upgrading the electronics (pickups and pots) but you would want to on a baseline Squier also.

As far as manuals, on this website, go to products, then to other product sites and go to the starcaster by fender website. You can find the manual there.

That's a good suggestion.

My starcaster works great since I got it. I would recomed that you upgrade the tuner.

I'd get a Squier if I were you. A used Squier Standard is probably about as much as a Starcaster is new. If you can try and find a used Fender Standard, that way you have a nice, affordable guitar that you can tweak as much as you'd like and play for the rest of your life.

I would recommend smashing it against your face.

Any good set of pickups you would put in any strat - if you end up upgrading to a better guitar you can always take the pickups.
I put Vintage Noiseless in mine - they are good pickups.
However, I rather wish I had put Lace Sensors in it.
