I noticed that the action on my Stratosonic was a little higher than it should be. I've never adjusted a neck on a strat before. The guitar came with an allen wrench and there was an adjustment screw in the neck mount backing plate. I figured I'd give it a mild twist and see if there was any effect. The screw was totally loose. it took about 3 turns to get any resistance at all. Then, with a little resistance, it started lowering the action. It's playable now but I want to know the correct procedure before any more twisting.

the screw you twisted is for the truss rod. it's generally not a good idea to mess with it unless you know what you are doing. you could end up damaging the neck.
the better way to adjust the action is to lower the saddles on the bridge.
