Hi Folks - I'm new here and wanted to ask a question about my 63 Jaguar. My Father bought this for me decades ago when I was about 16 or 17. I've had it for many, many years along with the original Vibrolux Amp that was purchased at the same time.

OK, now a few questions;

I would never sell it but I'm trying to get a feel for what it's worth. SN is 94907 and the date on the neck stamp reads 1JAN63B. To the best of my recollection that's just about when we bought it, in 1963. Does anyone know what it's worth? It is in near mint condition with a few scratches on the back from my belt buckle - that damage was done early on and I never wear a buckle anymore while playing. Here is a link to a photo of the guitar and amp

(sorry - I couldn't get the link to work as a "clicky")

I would like to get it tuned up, that is to say, neck checked, intonation set, bridge set up again - I think I fooled around with it in my younger years and didn't know what I was doing  I live near Chicago in the NW susburbs - can anyone recommend a good shop? Guitar Center is just down the street, but I don't know how good they are in the service area.

By the way, when my Father passed some years ago, I received his 1939 Martin OO-18, that's the guitar I learned to play on. When time permits I'm taking that one to Martin in Pennsylvania for evaluation and repair.

Thanks in advance,

Dadztoy

Take it to a good luthier in the area. Chicgo huh? Got to be a few hundred qualified techs. Please don't take a vintage Fender and turn it over to some pimply-faced kid that 's in all likelyhood, clueless at best. Just my two cents. 8) Mike p.s Welcome to the forum! No Guitar Center Please!

Thanks Mike - appreciate the reply... Kinda thought that about Guitar Center - I'll hit the yellow pages and Internet for a decent Tech (luthier)...

Got any idea what it's worth??? Did you look at the photos?

Hi,

Man that one is kept well! I do not really know about the american price level, but here in Denmark, pre-CBS jags (who are usually a hell lot more beat up than this one) goes for at least 6000$, calculating with the low dollar pricetag. No idea what so ever about the amp :P

HI, this is just an amatuer's opinion, but based on a similar year Jaguar I saw in a local music store, that wasn't in the great condition yours appears to be in, I think you may have a $10,000.00 guitar.

I had a 1965 Jaguar that I sold in 1971 for $200.00. Not a very bright move.

Don't ever sell that beauty.

WOW - that sure is more than I expected... I've seen them on various forums for $3500-$7000 but I'm a bit ignorant on the little peculiarities on each model, serial number...

The neck stamp reads 1JAN63 B and that would jive with the time I bought the guitar... Actually, my father, who owned a TV store at the time, did a swap deal with my guitar teacher who owned a music store... Again, thinking back to those times, I would guess that the dollar amount was in the 6-700 dollar area for the TV that was swapped for the guitar. and the vibrolux amp..

The guitar is currently at a local luthier being cleaned up, intonation set, bridge adjusted, and new strings... I can't wait to get it back when all is done and see how it plays after that...

My granddaughter is nuts about it, she just started playing, and I would expect that it will be hers if she wants it when I'm no longer around...

Too bad you sold yours - I have several other guitars as well including the one I learned to play on before I got my Jaguar... That guitar, a 1939 Martin 00-18 is also sitting in my closet along with my Fender Acoustic my wife bought me a few years ago... The martin will be hand carried up to Martin in PA and have some repair work done to it as well when time permits... I generally do not sell my musical instruments... I still have my big Yamaha Keyboard that I frequently play when the urge strikes...

Thanks for the information...

Les
