Yeah, the Jagstang is terrible, I traded one I had a few years ago for a J5 Tele.

There's a CIJ reverse headstock Kurt Cobain Jaguar that is actually pretty nice though.

NO! The Jagstang is a neat looking guitar at first, then you notice that the upper strap button is in a terrible place where the strap slips off easily, and the pickguard does not follow the lines of the body well at all. Then you plug it in.......and that's when you notice that this is one of the worst sounding guitars.......ever. I own one in sonic blue. I keep it ONLY because I am a Nirvana fan. I also don't think there is anywhere near enough interest in this model that it would sell well if it were re-issued. Besides, if they re-issued the thing, it would probably cost as much as a new Mustang or Jaguar made in Mexico, and would not be worth $800-$900 bucks. Here's a tip to all looking at these guitars.....instead of blowing $600 + on a used Jagstang, spend the same money on a late 1970's or early 1980's Musicmaster, and add a bridge pickup. The Musicmaster is USA made, cheaper than a Mustang or Jaguar, the body is made of REAL wood (not basswood), and these guitars sound great.

Seriously. It's not good. It's a halfbaked design because it was still mega early in the R&D phase. I have faith that had Kurt lived, he and FCS would have tooled it into an excellent instrument, but all we're left with is an Alpha prototype of a guitar.

It's a terrible guitar as standard, but not only is it good for collectors, they are a killer base for modificaions and you can end up with a seriously good guitar that hardly anyvody else will have and will definitely provoke questions and interest.

But you already knew that right?

And even then it's ugly as hell, awkwardly shaped, and apparently neck heavy.

You could say that about damn near any guitar.

Ok it's aesthetically challenged to say the least, the shape is actually fine when you're standing, and as for the neck heavy thing, the Les Paul seems to manage and that is the most top heavy guitar i've ever come across.

And yes, any guitar can be modified to sound good, but it's not like any guitar cause it's rare and a funny shape, and takes better to choice mods than most guitars for the same price. Maybe it's just the fact it was designed by Kurt Cobain that is making me biased. But i'd still buy one anyhow.

Kurt's one of my idols, which is why I bought the guitar when I was in Japan. It was just no good for me. It didn't do anything well enough for me.

They should bring it back for the anniversary of Nevermind. I would prefer them to update it with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and Tune-O-Matic Bridge though. What ever is lighter Alder or Basswood I think Kurt would be pleased with more. .02

There are only two Fender guitars in my collection that I rarely play

the Cyclone
the Jag-Stang

Both are mediocre. Usually I'll get a second guitar of a model if a different color comes up cheap in local ads but I'd passs on these two.

Again, everyone who has actually owned one attests to its mediocrity.

It's still a cool guitar to own and mess around with. No one said it was the best guitar. It is what it is. :|
