Hey all, thanks for reading.

My friend had been wanting to move up from his MIM Strat, but a budget makes it so that he can really only spend less then $1000.00. I was looking for a guitar, and I saw the Jazzmaster. Let me say right now.. it looks amazing. Absolutely amazing.

I have some questions that can hopefully be answered.

1) How versatile is it? It seems that with a name like JAZZmaster, you are confined to the Jazz area. Can you play stuff like AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, or even DragonForce (for lack of a better extreme) on it?

2) Which model?

3) Your experience with a Fender Jazzmaster; how has it treated you?

If some people could answer those questions, it would be most helpful.

Thanks,
KRAD

Basicly, you can play anything on every guitar.

However the jazzmaster is NOT a jazz guitar. More of a surf, noise and indie guitar to me, but GO AND TRY FOR YOURSELF! only way to find out, maybe something else might catch your friends eye as well :D

Hi!

I don't own a Jazzmaster, but i always wanted one. Someone that I jam sometimes with play a jazzmaster... and it's very versatile. The Jazzmaster is as versatile as my Telecaster and we play alot of heavy stuff and it does a great job.

Hey there!
I own a 1964, all original j-master and I love it!!!

To answer your questions, 1) It's fairly versatile. The pickups are airy sounding and have a nice bite when distorted. It's good for anything clean up to some classic rock. 2) For your price range, the Classic Players Series is probably the best bet. I think they run in the 800s new and used you could probably get one for around 500. 3) I own a 64 and have been playin it for about four years. It's absolutely wonderful! Mine's got a slightly chunky neck, but it plays fast. Although my main guitar now is a G*bson (you can't mention that guitar company's name here) SG Deluxe from 1998, I would play my Jazzmaster just about as often. I don't really play it on stage anymore because of its value. I have a Fender Stratocaster as a backup but, honestly, I don't like that guitar. Go with G*bsons (set necks, humbuckers on most models withouth modification) or a Fender Jazzmaster! You can't go wrong!

hi there,
the fender jazzmaster is my favorite guitar. I play jazz, pyhscadelic rock, raggae, surf, indie, punk - i guess basically everything except for metal and classic rock. For all my purposes this guitar is perfect. Clean, this guitar has a warm, bright kind of tone and it has a dirty, grungy kind of distorted sound - the jazzmaster pickups also seem to respond well to effects and such if youre into that.

Based on the syles you mentioned, i would recommend you get the new MIM jaguar HH(not the black hardtail one but the one with the tremelo that just came out recently). it has the same body shape as the jazzmaster, a slightly shorter scale, and more importantly has dual humbuckers instead of the JM soapbars - so im guessing it would suit you better in terms of sound for the AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Dragonforce and what not. but ive also heard that the pickups in the new MIM jazzmasters are slightly hotter than the traditional jazzmaster pickups, so it might be just as good for those styles.

All in all i'd say that the jazzmaster is the most versatile guitar out there, and it could handle any style of music for the electric guitar - So if you've got your hear set on a JM you should get one, but the dual humbuckers in the jag are just gonna be better for producing a classic rock and heavy metal tone. peace out.
