I can't say anythinng for how the reissue plays, but my '69 Mustang Comp plays very well. Alot has to do with the setup. As for size, look at this pic and you can compare it to a Strat.

Also take a look at the Jaguar Mustang Forum where Mustangs are a popular subject.

Good luck.

Thats a beautiful mustang you have there!!!
thanks man.. own two strats currently and love them but I noticed just recently that my ESP had a 24 3/4 scale and it is nicer for solos and when you have to really stretch your fingers .... so I am thinking a mustang must be really comfortable to play... I might buy one in the future :)

There very comfortable to play but the 7.25 neck radius makes them a little hard to solo on. However with the right set up they play like dreams.

I have a 79 Mustang--I finally played a reissue a couple of months ago--when I saw one in a store. I didn't plug it in, so I can't comment on that--but the feel was similar, although the unplugged sound wasn't as rich. Still a very nice guitar.

Mine was set up by the store where I bought it (I liked the sunburst body they had, but it had a maple fingerboard and I prefer rosewood, so they swapped necks with another Mustang in the store, and then set it up. I've never had to redo the setup in nearly 30 years--it still plays great.

Due to the radius it isn't as good for slide as other guitars I have--but I have no trouble soling on it--the shorter scale means less string tension.

And auriemma--that Bradley Les Paul copy has the same headstock inlay as my Granada Les Paul copy. SO was yours made in Japan--by Matsumoku? All other guitars I've seen with that inlay were (Granada, Aria, and a couple of others.)

Zontar,

I have seen that headstock inlay on many MIJ LPC copies. Honestly, all I know is it was made in Japan circa 1977. My cousin has a Gibson LP Standard. The Bradley is slightly lighter with an identical feel. Its sounds great, but not quite like a true Gibson LP.

Take a look here for more on MIJ LPs:
http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/other-les-pauls/

PM me if you want discuss them further.

Otherwise... back to the Fenders.

I owned a brand new 1965 (in 1965) and now have a reissue .. these are very playable, and you're experience is the sdame as mine - the short scale makes some things playable on this guitar that I frankly can't pull off on a larger scale guitar (at least as easily). The quality on mine required that I do some minor setup changes and adjustments (replaced the nut with asomething that wild vibrato could operate in and still keep tune...). All in all its a really unique guitar, and has both a distinctive sound and is a quality guitar for gigging, etc. I have tele's ,strats, etc and can really say that the Mustang holds its own, although it has its own personality playing-wise ... I find I can use it for almost any type of music, but its the ultimate surf guitar ...

I should add, the shorter scale I find is good for learning tough chord changes or tricky riffs. If I'm having trouble learning something on one of my other guitars, I pull out my Mustang and learn it on that--then I can play it on any of my guitars once I've learned it on the Mustang.

Of course there are things I can't play.

I'm on that forum too--as a Les Paul & Les Paul copy owner, here as a Fender owner--and a few others as well.

So thanks for the answer.

I hated selling my '71 Mustang.

You guys might like this site, but if you're really into short scale guitars, you may already know about it.

I had a Mustang for awhile, and it was very comfortable to play with my small hands. I would have preferred hotter pickups, though.

I didn't try new pickups in my Mustang, but I've heard good things about Lindy Fralins.

How about Lace Sensors? They even look similar.
