I can't figure this out. My ohm meter showed no resistance beteen the tailpiece and the control plate on my '64 Mustang, but I know there is no wire connected to the vibrato plate. I've been told the bridge cup is grounded, but I don't see any wires running to it. I had it on the bench under floresent lighting, and I got I different buzz when I touched the control plate than when I touched the tailpiece. I also found about 1 volt ac between the two. I fixed the buzz problem by running a small gauge wire (virtually invisable) from the rear pickup shield under the pickguard to under the vibrato plate. Now I know it's grounded, but I just can't figure out why my ohm meter told me it was grounded before I did this. :?:

Quit looking everybody. I found it. There is a thin wire secured under the bridge anchor (high E side) that runs under the pickguard to the shielding in the bridge pickup cavity. I had lost my connection somewhere along the line in during one of my many refinish jobs. As far as getting a small a/c voltage reading between the tailpiece and the control plate before I fixed the missing ground... it seems that with one lead of my digital volt meter grounded, I can pick up 3 volts in my garage just by touching the other lead with my fingers. I still don't know why it showed no resistance between the tailpiece and the control plate before I fixed the missing ground, but I'm not about to take it apart again to try to figure that one out.
