Was thinking about getting my 13 year old son his first guitar for Xmas and was looking at this package from GC.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-by-F ... 1177837.gc

I heard that the whammy bar would make it difficult to keep this thing in tune but that it could be removed and this would eliminate the problem.

I dont know anything about guitars and I'm not sure if this is true or if this is a good guitar to start with.

any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

yea its a good one to start with i started with one similar to it. u dont really need to worry about gettin him a rly expensive one if hes just starting and plus its a strat so its already nice enough for a beginner. and the thing about the tremelo (whammy bar), what it is is that the bridge is attached to a set of springs that are mounted in the back of the body and when you push or pull the bar it rocks the bridge which will loosen or tighten the strings so yes it does make it hard to keep it in tune unless u get a locking nut for it and that should keep it in tune.
