I'm currently looking into getting new pickups for my mustang reissue. don't get me wrong i love the sound but it doesn't have a lot of punch volume-wise. any suggestions on what would work?

Many years ago, I popped a pup out of a strat clone into my 66 Musicmaster for the same reason. HAd to file a little off the front of pup cover, but other than that it was a drop in. I'd say about anything will fit.

Good luck

You should use the pickups you have right now and try turning your amps' knobs and gain to get a "punchier" sound out of that guit of yours. :D

like i said the sound is great but the volume is lacking. compared to my strat with emgs, i need something in there with some more punch. and the hiss is atrocious too.

Is it hiss or buzz? My musicmaster has a buzz that is a loose ground that will be fixed next time I change strings.

I'm not sure how it sounds with the re-issues--but even though my older Mustang is quieter than my other guitars--I love the tone I get from those stock pickups--I could never change them.

If they're not what you want though--sure look at other options. But if it's just the volume you don't like--there are ways to boost that--maybe if you want to tinker, make your own stomp box to make it louder.
