We found my husband's old jazzmaster in the basement during a recent clean-out. He bought it at a pawn shop 15 years ago for $200. Not knowing what it was, he painted it and enjoyed playing it. Then a friend asked if he could remove the paint and work on the guitar. He took the whole thing apart and removed the added paint and stripped the body down to the wood. All of the pieces are off but still in the case.

So here is the question. Should we try to have it put back together and refinished or are there folks who would just as soon do that themselves for the fun of it?

What is an instrument like this worth? It seems to be a '61 as it has the four serial numbers at the top.

It also has an ink stamp on the back at the bottom of the finger board that says "Henry Ferry". The number on the metal plate is 95692.

Anyone who can help identify the guitar and advise us, it would be deeply appreciated.

I would talk to a few music stores that do repairs and such, see if they could recommend someone to "Restore" it.

Is it all there? even though it's in pieces....Definately something to get fixed up.

I've seen refinished ones of that era go from $2500-$5000 depending on how good the work was done

From the serial number it's from '63/'65

You could get more out of it by refinishing it and selling it "whole" than you could selling it as a "kit."

A refinish would be pretty nice but I think maybe just a laquer would look nice too... Kind of Costello-ish.

I own an all original 64 and I think it's worth about 5000.
